Roz and Mocha got you. Kristen, hello. It's Roz and
Mocha.
Hi. Girl, what has got you so stressed out? How do you choose the right high school for your kids?
Oh, my God. That is such a tough question, Christian. You wrote us this. Hey, Razamoka, fix my life. My son is in grade eight and starts high school next year. I teach at a great high school 15 minutes away and have always wanted my kids to go there. The staff is amazing, but he's not thrilled about leaving his friends. He's a gamer, so he'll still talk to them online and hang out on weekends. He's never made friends easily. And that gives me pause. When I was in high school, I was shy but made new friends in grade nine. I don't know what to do. As parents, what would you do? Have
you had the conversation with him? I have. He's always kind of known that he was going to go to my high school. And now that it's grade eight and stuff's getting real, he's like, you know what? I don't really want to go to your school. I want to stay with my friends. And we keep kind of going back and forth on it. And this is the part that I'm just like, registration's in January. And I'm really torn about what to do. What is the downside of him not going to the school that you teach at? I mean, I don't know. I think it was just, it's something that's been in my head that he was going to be at my school.
How can I talk to my son about the fear of losing closeness before the baby arrives?
And I love this school so much. And I know the staff is fantastic. We have really great programs. So I just, I know it's a good place. I don't know... I mean, I don't I guess there's fear of the unknown there, too. I don't really know a lot about the school that he's going to be going to. And I well, maybe some research needs to be done. And also the other question you have to ask yourself, Kristen, is what's the best thing for your son? Right. Is it to be at the school that his mom teaches at or is it to be at another school where he could kind of gain a little bit more independence and be comfortable with having his friends around? Yeah, and I think that's where I think maybe I just have to let go of the idea that I had in my head that he would come to my school.
This sounds a whole lot less like trying to do the best thing for my kid and a little more like I've always had this cool dream for me.
Yeah.
It sounds a little bit like that, that this isn't so much what's best for him and his friends and his schooling and everything else. And it's it's it's you've always had this thought in the back of your mind about how cool it would be if he went to the school that you worked at. And now that's at risk of not happening. And it's all about you.
Yeah. Kind of stepping back and looking at it like that. I think that you're right.
Yeah. It's like if there's a massive difference in the education that he's going to get, then you can make that argument. Right. Right. Yeah. But the curriculum is going to be the same at both schools. So it's a matter of, you know, the teachers and you could really easily, very easily research that on your own and talk to other parents and do a little bit of, you know, your own legwork on that. But like apples to apples, you know, it really comes down to do you want to take him away from his friends so you have a buddy at school?
Right. And ultimately, no. Right.
Yeah. Right. Which is hard.
