How does Jayni introduce the concept of a safe inner sanctuary for rest?

Jayni Terry 0:11
Hi, I'm Janie and welcome back to Sleep Magic. I'm so glad you're here at the end of your day. What a nice way to care for yourself just a little sweeter tonight. Now together we're going to spend Very intentional time, carrying you deeper and deeper into this restful sanctuary. And I'll tell you what. I'll guard the door. So that no one and nothing at all can disturb you. Would you like that? You deserve to be able to completely unplug and get the kind of restorative rest that goes beyond just sleep. It's healing. For many of us, we learned very young that rest was not always something that came easily in our households. Maybe there were chores to finish before you could relax or Early mornings or busy schedules.
Jayni Terry 1:04
And you might have even heard the familiar phrase, if you're bored, I'll find you something to do. Perhaps slowing down was mistaken for laziness. Or productivity became something to be proud of. While simply resting. Became something you felt. Guilty about. A lot of these internalized messages may have been unintentionally taught. But nonetheless, many adults struggle to relax, Rest or nap. Because it feels like there is something else that should be done before we earn it. But the truth is. There will always be another email. Another chore. Another responsibility waiting for your attention. If we wait until life is completely finished asking things of us, we may never fully allow ourselves to rest at all.
Jayni Terry 1:55
So tonight I'd like to offer you a different experience. One where you feel Safe to rest. No matter what you've accomplished today or not. No matter what is left on the to-do list. No matter what. May be anticipated for tomorrow. Could you do just this for yourself tonight? Could you release the pressure to keep doing? And simply allow yourself to be? To just be. Together. Let's enter this sanctuary for rest. Safe rest. Where deep sleep is never something you have to earn. And where you can feel truly safe to rest your mind. And body. Now before we begin, our only ad break. That makes this magic possible. To go ad-free, follow the link in the show notes. Okay. Now it's time to let go. And drift into a safe. Restful state.
Jayni Terry 2:57
Or deep sleep can find you. It's time to drift. True. And let go.
Jayni Terry 3:15
Tonight, let's create a sanctuary for rest. Just for you. Place where your body can begin to learn something that Perhaps was never taught. That rest can be safe. That letting go. Can be safe. That closing your eyes can be saved. Then becoming still. Can be safe. And that sleep does not have to be something you earn at the end. Have a productive day. You are always worthy of rest.

Why do we often feel we must earn rest and how is that belief challenged?

Jayni Terry 4:00
Even on the days when you accomplish very little. Even on days when things are left unfinished. Even when others want more from you. Even when dishes remain in the sink. The message is still very clear. You are worthy of rest here. And now. And so tonight. I want you to allow my voice to become a kind of permission. Permission to stop? Permission to soften. Permission to be unavailable to the world for a little while. For this next while. He'll be drifting into a D. Restful sleep. You do not need to anticipate anyone else's needs. You don't even need to try particularly hard to fall asleep. Because it will come naturally. And quite easily. You have the permission now to let go. So just allow yourself to simply be
Jayni Terry 5:23
Take a nice big deep breath in. And then exhale nice and slow. There you go. You're just listening to the sound of my voice. And resting your body. And you're already doing a wonderful job. Allow your body to discover perhaps a little more deeply than it ever has before. That right now In this moment. It is safe to rest. Rath. So if your pillow needs adjusting. Adjusted. And if the blankets need to come a little higher up or lower. You can do that now. Perhaps one leg wants to straighten. Perhaps your shoulders want to shift. Perhaps your jaw wants to open slightly. Your body is allowed to have these needs. And you are allowed to respond to those needs. Just allow yourself to be comfortable. In the very best way you can.
Jayni Terry 6:59
And follow my voice. As you relax more.
