Hello and welcome to Talking Scared Off Book. I'm your host, Neil McRobber, and I'd like you to meet some friends of mine. The Scardy Boys are my horror brethren from down under: Damien Robb, Sean Carney, and Tom Reed, a trio of delightful Australian lads who are entirely unashamed of their fear, and who've made a podcast, Scaredy Boys, to chronicle their attempts to overcome. For years now, they've been watching. watching and analysing a new horror movie every week. To the point where they've probably seen more than most of us. And despite being cowards, they're certainly smart, and their analysis of storytelling and movie making is second to none. They invited me on their show a few months back, and I quickly recognized them as brothers in arms, so I binged hundreds of their episodes and invited them onto Talking Scared in turn to discuss their relationship with our shared genre.
However, I had so many questions prepared for them that I knew this would inevitably be a big extended episode. As such, you'll receive it in two parts. Hello boys, welcome to Talking Scared Off Book. Bloody good to have you on the show. How are ya? Good mate, thank you. Very good, man.
Very good. Bloody good to be here, my friend.
I mean I I wanted to start this show by saying, Hello, you whiny bitches. How are you? That's fair. That's fair and valid. It seemed harsh. Um right, we're gonna talk Horror movies today, because that's your bread and butter, Scardy Boys. I imagine hot takes will be shared, arguments will be had, corrective opinions will be offered. Um Interesting. Okay, okay. And there's a reason I'm rushing to start this, because this is probably going to be a two parter as it is, 'cause I've got a lot to cover. Um introductions are in order. So does someone, and I'm assuming Damo, want to introduce the Scaredy Boys project?
Certainly. So Scaredy Boys, our tagline is three cowardly friends who discuss horror movies, which is exactly what it is. Um, and so this one it it's basically literally up until what six years ago, boys, I think it is seven years ago. Yeah, that's right. Um just before COVID. We despite loving film and cinema and stories, and we all met in a um film course, we Had always avoided horror because we are, as the name suggests, big cowards, huge cowards. So I came up with the idea of, hey, that's an interesting take. Why don't we have cowards talking horror movies and pitched it to the lads and they were on board? And then we started watching horror movies and they were no longer on board. Um I got no small amount of abuse and understood it to be perfectly honest.
Okay. Um That's that's what Skety Boys is. And yeah, for the listeners, I am Demo. This is what Damo sounds like, because yeah, these three Aussie voices might all start to blend together for you.
And I'm Sean and this is what my voice sounds like. Um, and I'm Tom and I will be the wrongest of the opinions, I reckon, because that's generally Oh, I don't know, Tom.
I think you and Neil probably have some cross over I think you would have more 'cause hey, we'll find out.
It'll be nice to have someone on my side for once, because very often on the podcast I am fighting an uphill fight alone.
