Good morning, Tony Lyall. Good morning. Great Monday morning.
Big weekend in Wellington. Yeah, huge weekend. I'm sort of still recovering, to be brutally honest. I was absolutely beat when I hit the sack last night after a grand total of about five hours sleep on Saturday night. A hell of an occasion, really. Wellington really put it on. Yeah, you were staying with Joe Drury in the kind of single dad's... Yeah, the Divorced Dad Hotel as we sort of fondly called it where my bed literally touched three of the walls and then the other wall was a window that slid out to a balcony that you could just use to go down to an atrium if you really had enough. Open up the balcony and just sort of flop over and yeah, end it all.
Was there a barbecue table in the middle of the atrium?
Yeah, barbecue table to aim for. You could just sort of hit that as some sort of safety net or sleep on it if things weren't going particularly well, if you wanted to hit the barbecue table.
At least you weren't on the first floor. That's where I was on the floor where the barbecue table was. So it was like a motel. The people were just coming straight through my window.
Yeah, it was a hell of a time. We had one of the great moments yesterday morning, packing up to grab the Uber at about 6 a.m. And, you know, you get the old obligatory aqua come pick you up. Oh, yeah, yeah. And bleary-eyed, wander on down, sit in the back, and Joe Drew, through a moment of, you know, civility and trying to bond with the Uber driver, just said, hey, mate, how you going? Then we sat in silence for about 10 seconds before I hear Joe just reply with a, all right then. And I was in the front and got the biggest case of the giggles of just, there's the Uber driver blanked him completely. Just, how's it going, mate?
All right then. It was one of the great moments. Well, this morning, school holidays, so I'm on school punishment at the moment, so all the kids at home. And I had them in the car, and I went to pull out something out of my pocket of my pants. And this popped out. Oh, Calendar Girls, yes. So an admit one to Calendar Girls, all clubs licensed until 4 a.m. And it was a free admit one, bit of a QR code just scanned on the back as well. How do you explain that? Yeah, it's difficult.
Are your kids like, Dad, what's a Calendar Girl? Yeah. What is this? And you go, oh, it's a printing shop. It's kind of like where you go to get your calendars printed, and it's exclusively run by women.
Yes, yes. However, there is an explanation for this. Yes. At the Green Man, where we had our pre-match function, thanks to all the great New Zealanders who turned up there, including the gentleman who was the first ever to send through a mannequins, and he came up and bought me a beer and apologised. He deserved to buy you a beer, to be honest. That was good time. That was good to see the source. Anyway, at all these pre-games we do, we give away a bonus bet from the TAB and we put it on a first try scorer, usually a local hero. We put $300 bonus bet on the love muscle to be the first scorer of the try. It's going to win $4,200. And basically we get up on stage and we say, text LOVE to 3236. This is where the problem might be.
We text LOVE to 3236 and we pick a random number from the iPad and we ring them in the pub. Everyone's quiet and everyone's got their phones out. And whoever picks up wins that bet. And if it wins, they win that money. Pretty much one of the only females in the pub Picks up her phone and says, hello. And I was like, hi. I look over and she's not in any All Blacks gear. No. Blonde. Glasses. Not sure she needed the glasses. No, they were sort of like Mia Khalifa style glasses. Yeah. And so got her details. And then I think her partner came over and just put into our hands a fistful of Calendar Girls Admit Ones and a few dollars. Yeah. And then I kind of put two and two together. And that's when I thought maybe having the keyword love was the wrong thing to do.
