Um, There was a weird anomaly on my car registration, which meant that they hadn't actually changed the address properly. It was a human error on their side, I since found out.
And so about two months ago, I got a call from someone at the Ministry of Justice, and they were saying, we're about to issue a warrant for your arrest for an unpaid speeding ticket. And I was like, what are you... It's the first time I'm hearing of this. I have no idea about this at all. We've sent you out many letters. I haven't got not a one. No idea completely. And it was $100. And they were literally saying, I'll read you this. This is a menacing text message. So $100 and you're about to get arrested. This is a menacing text message to receive. It said, hi, Anthony. I've noticed that you have not kept your arrangement to pay your fines. I'm now considering issuing a warrant to arrest for unpaid fines.
To avoid this, please call Ministry of Justice on 800-yada-yada-yada, quote PPN, fines, Deputy Register, District Court of New Zealand. And I was like, what the fuck? No idea that any of this has happened to me. Who's firing out those texts? That's quite a good job. Well, it was kind of, I thought it was a nice mix of formal and casual.

I was like, I've noticed. Like, I've just sort of noticed. So I might arrest you. Yeah. And so I ran and was like, what is this? And they were like, you know, we've sent you out this speeding fire. And I was like, well, how much is it? They're like 125 bucks. And I was like, oh, well. I'll take care of that. So nip that one on the bud, whatever the saying is. Yeah, nip it in the bud. But I also thought that's a lot to arrest me for $125. Imagine going to jail and you're sitting there beside, you know, someone who's curb stomped a dude and then he's like, what are you in for? You're like, $120 parking fine. Is that a parking or speeding fine? That was a speeding fine. And the speeding fine, did you get a text to say give them a call?
I got a text to say give them a call. See, I would have... I've got a bad habit of if anyone texts me of that ilk, I presume it's a scam and I reply, fuck you, send nudes and stuff like that just for pure satisfaction that they might read it and stuff like, yeah, no worries, mate, here's all my money. The reason that I didn't think it was, it's because on the same text line from years later, I did have a message from them about another fine, like from 2004, you know, when it just loads the old messages. So I thought, oh, that does look legit. And then I rang them. But to an aid of what you're saying, the first thing they say are, we're aware of scam messages going around saying that it's us. And I was like, well, am I being scammed here?
But it did seem to be legit. I presume I'm always getting scammed, so I'm always just on the front foot abusive. Yeah, I wish I had been because then once I got hold of them, we got to the bottom of it. They're like, oh, sorry, there's a system here on our side where it says your address is updated. on your end, but on our end, it's still got your old address. So all your mail is going there. And I was like, oh, can we change that? They go, no worries. And then, so that, that sort of happened a couple of days ago. And yesterday, how fast were you going by the way? Uh, I was going, I think it was like 87 going into the Waterview tunnel. And it was after a cricket game in Hamilton.
