I mean, my general sense, without messing about, is if I was advising him, and not just because they're European champions, you know, from a developmental point of view for a 19-year-old, coming to the Premier League the way it's been recently, it's a slog. Listen, as I always say, it'd be fun to play for us, but I could see why he'd end up saying, you know what, I'll just go to Paris Saint-Germain where things will be more straightforward and they're the European champions.
Yeah, it's... The Premier League's in an interesting position at the moment where it feels like it's lost a little bit of its shine. It's still probably the biggest league in the world in terms of attention and any metrics you want to use around viewers, I'm sure it is. But it doesn't quite feel like it was where it was a few years ago when... you know, felt like every player wanted to come here. I don't think that's necessarily the case now. Listen, Liverpool's still a massive club and can attract players in its own right, of course, but I don't think it's, you know, all the top players are going, well, I need to get to the Premier League. Who's the best option for me there? And we were competing with, you know, with City and Arsenal and Chelsea or whoever it might be for these players.
Now, you've obviously got PSG who've, emerged as a super club and this would have been a decent destination for a while because of what they pay but I think since they've obviously won these back-to-back Champions League and the way they've done it, the manager that they've got there and the style of play and the fact that in terms of workload it is a little bit easier because of the league that they play in and because they're able to rest so many players it's become you know, incredibly hot destination that Liverpool sort of has to accept it's going to be there. Obviously, he's got family links to Paris as well, so I'm sure that was a strong pull, but it just is a really good option and you need to be a supporter.
It's just a little bit growing up about it, really. I'm sure Richard Hughes, whoever, has done everything that he can to convince Liverpool as the place to be. It just sometimes doesn't happen. We got all our top targets last season. That's really rare, but we did that as champions. Now we're not, and so our stock's gone down a little bit.
