Chapter 1: What is the new marketing strategy introduced in this episode?

0.031 - 22.787 Unknown

I like to get up in the morning and have my coffee, and then I like to get on my iPad and Google people. There's a lot of scoop going on right now, and people are not getting along, so guess what? Then after I Google several people, I go on Instagram and I Insta snoop and I see who's following each other, who's not following each other.

0

22.827 - 46.491 Unknown

Then I have a little breakfast and I eat it really quickly so that I can get back. So then I hit tools and I go, what did I miss in the last hour? And that's how I do it. I keep up on everything. On this episode of the Commercial Break.

0

47.272 - 51.957 Krissy Hoadley

You know that plane, that old 70s. Oh, yeah, that old 70s.

0

51.997 - 53.88 Bryan Green

Yeah, TCB.

0

53.9 - 57.704 Krissy Hoadley

Let's get that thing out and send people to the Great Wolf Lodge just to talk about it.

57.744 - 59.907 Bryan Green

Hey, listen, this is not a bad idea.

59.947 - 60.748 Krissy Hoadley

Tripping with TCB.

60.768 - 71.361 Bryan Green

Let's send a hillbilly horror stories, guys. Tripping with TCB. Sending you to the Great Wolf Lodge. But you're not getting no rawr package. You're going to be in a bunk bed.

71.381 - 72.462 Unknown

Depending on the level of influence.

Chapter 2: How do influencers impact brand marketing?

301.281 - 305.21 Bryan Green

There's now in the TV section, Mr. and Mrs. Smith season one.

0

305.25 - 310.703 Krissy Hoadley

I have to say, I just watched that. Jeff and I just watched that this weekend.

0

310.835 - 316.868 Bryan Green

I don't know why everybody's, I watched the first episode and I don't know why everybody's going so crazy over this television show.

0

316.928 - 325.627 Krissy Hoadley

Yeah, I mean, it was good. Sure. But it wasn't, there were some parts of the story that kind of didn't congeal to me. It's like Jack Ryan.

0

325.907 - 326.228 Unknown

Yeah.

326.208 - 335.826 Bryan Green

which I desperately want to be such a fantastic television show. And moments there are, and I can finally believe that guy does something else besides The Office.

336.027 - 337.77 Krissy Hoadley

Do you know what I'm saying? Krasinski?

337.79 - 345.244 Bryan Green

Yeah, but it doesn't all come together in a way that I think is pleasing. And I thought Mrs. and Mr. Smith was that way.

345.305 - 345.926 Krissy Hoadley

Same for me.

Chapter 3: What are the implications of the Atlanta snowstorm?

633.545 - 653.923 Bryan Green

I fell in love with you for who you are. And in that moment, he made a choice to stay alive. And that starts the great journey of Christopher Reeve, changing not only his life and many around him, but then many people, he becomes a Superman to many people who desperately needed a Superman. And that's the beauty of his story, is that he fought

0

653.903 - 674.443 Bryan Green

valiantly to make sure life was better for people he otherwise would have looked over and looked down on in his previous life. And only Superman could have done that. Only Superman could have done. Only Superman could have imparted that kind of power and wisdom and

0

674.423 - 676.667 Krissy Hoadley

What a story. Is it on HBO?

0

677.028 - 697.143 Bryan Green

It's on HBO Max. Yeah. And so you must watch it. I mean, again, don't... This is an ugly cry. An ugly cry is coming at least twice in the movie. And at the end of the movie, it's just a gut punch. All of his kids are in it. Both of his wives are in it. Apparently... His ex-wife became a great friend of the family, and they all parented together.

0

697.183 - 718.656 Bryan Green

And his current wife, or the wife that he had when he died, also became a great advocate in a lot of ways for the disabled community and still continues that work. And his kids are in varying degrees of still grieving, and that's evident on the screen. But the way that this movie is put together is like a Superman movie.

718.636 - 736.56 Bryan Green

And the imagery of Superman and some of the imagery from those movies is used to great effect and great sadness at moments and great power at other moments. So I know we shouldn't get this serious on the show, but I really wanted to talk about it. And now that we're reviewing these movies, I thought I would share that I was really, really excited

736.54 - 737.522 Krissy Hoadley

I will watch it.

737.762 - 756.692 Bryan Green

Impacted by this movie. It was one of these things where I was like sitting here doing editing or whatever I was doing. And then I put it on in the background. And about 20 minutes in, I turned around and I didn't stop. I couldn't look away. And then Astrid walked in on me crying. And I said, I have something in my eye.

756.672 - 764.848 Krissy Hoadley

Speaking of movies, though, you recommended that one, that Fire of Love that I watched. I watched that yesterday. Very interesting movie.

Chapter 4: How did Christopher Reeve's life influence his portrayal of Superman?

1157.183 - 1177.74 Bryan Green

So she starts talking about how jealous she is and she wishes that she would get an invite to go on Tripping with Tart, which is apparently a biannual trip that they do where they rent like a private 747, take you to a private island, go down to private beaches and do private things and gift bags and boxes and Prada and all this other stuff. Yeah, who doesn't want to go on that?

0

1177.72 - 1199.165 Bryan Green

I want to declare here on the commercial break that we are now a makeup influencer podcast. And all I'm going to do is allow my daughters to come in here and put Tarte makeup on me for the rest of the year in the hopes that I get an invite to Tripping with Tarte. Now, I'm sure it's a policy not to invite, you know, straight, white people. 40-something-year-old men on Tripping with Tart.

0

1199.386 - 1219.939 Bryan Green

But I'm happy to stay in a different resort altogether, different island if you want me to. I'm happy to do that as long as I can get a trip. This looks fantastic. And the benefits that these young ladies are experiencing for, you know, doing some makeup reviews is amazing. It's amazing. This is the – what a time to be alive.

0

1219.959 - 1221.261 Krissy Hoadley

Yeah, what a time to be alive.

0

1221.241 - 1246.087 Unknown

Can I give you a little extra context with that? Yes. This is just from my own personal knowledge. There is a lot of drama around the Trippin' with Tarte stuff these days because it's gotten to a point, like, when they first started doing this trip, it was, like, a really great thing. But now it's been taken so far that people are just like, I don't want to see it. I don't want to buy your stuff.

1246.187 - 1248.109 Unknown

Like, people are upset about it. Yeah.

1248.089 - 1248.83 Bryan Green

They're rebelling.

1249.111 - 1273.906 Unknown

Yeah, because it's gone so far to, like, the consumerism, the capitalism, all of it has just gone so far that they're like, how much do I really need to see this content vacation that you guys put together? Like, do I need another tube of Tarte shape tape concealer? No. Like, yeah, so there's a lot of, like... Backlash. Yeah, backlash from a certain side of the internet. My side.

1275.05 - 1277.477 Unknown

Yeah, so just interesting context.

Chapter 5: What is the significance of the documentary 'Fire of Love'?

1483.938 - 1492.052 Bryan Green

Tripping with TCB. Sending you to the Great Wolf Lodge. But you're not getting no rawr package. You're going to be in a bunk bed.

0

1492.072 - 1493.134 Unknown

Depending on the level of implantation.

0

1493.114 - 1504.351 Bryan Green

Depending on the level of influencer, you might or might not get a discount on the ropes course. We will make that decision based on the kind of content you can create.

0

1504.531 - 1504.932 Unknown

Yeah, let's do it.

0

1504.952 - 1514.466 Bryan Green

I think our first, we have to invite Frankie B. We do. The hillbilly horror story people, whoever they are. And thank you very much for shouting on our podcast. Mountain monsters. Mountain monsters.

1514.487 - 1514.967 Krissy Hoadley

They fit in.

1515.148 - 1522.058 Bryan Green

Yeah, but they're not good. They're too big for us. They're too big for us. Frankie B. might be too big for us. Let's be honest about that.

1522.139 - 1525.164 Unknown

But I get it.

1525.224 - 1546.24 Bryan Green

I mean, I understand how also having worked with a lot of marketing people in the past, there are some real sharp ones that there are some people who just fell into marketing. Like when they can't find anything else for you to do, they make you a marketing manager. And that means you have another three months of your job. Marketing management means you at least here for another three months.

Chapter 6: What are the controversies surrounding the 'Tripping with Tarte' campaign?

1875.682 - 1900.783 Bryan Green

Well, guess what? Honey was making deals with the retailers to put in the least damaging coupon code to the retailer example. I go to Target.com. I pick out 10 things. Honey goes out there and finds three coupon codes for 20% off. They had a backdoor deal with Target to insert a 5% off coupon, even though the 20% coupon was available out there.

0

1900.763 - 1916.166 Bryan Green

Secondly, Honey was dropping in their own affiliate codes at the same time. So they were scrubbing the affiliate code of the influencer and they were dropping in their own code.

0

1916.186 - 1917.969 Unknown

That's messed up.

0

1917.989 - 1941.071 Bryan Green

That is fucked up. It's a total scam. Unplug Honey if you have it plugged in. Unplug it because it's not good. You're just going to do it the old-fashioned way and cut out coupons like my mom did. Like those people on Coupang. Coupon King or whatever it is on TLC like they do. You're going to just have to go do it the old-fashioned way. But Honey is like an all-out, bold-faced, balls-out scam.

0

1941.131 - 1960.54 Bryan Green

People were getting scammed, and Honey was taking the money from the same influencers it was supposedly supporting. That's crazy. It's insane. Marketing is hard. Marketing is hard work. And it doesn't always work. And you got to keep going. And you can never stop spending. And you always have to try new things.

1960.64 - 1979.438 Bryan Green

Take it from people who, quite frankly, have spent a lot of money on marketing the show. It's part of the reason of the success. And then the other part is organic or word of mouth or whatever it is. But marketing is hard. So I understand when you hit on something that seems like it's working, you stick with it. And you might get a little silly with the fucking shit like Tarte is.

1979.418 - 1984.465 Bryan Green

But Honey took it, you know, they were just running a scam and just paying influencers to do this.

1984.885 - 1993.837 Krissy Hoadley

Didn't they get, or they bought, like, another one of those extensions? Because there were a few of them, and I remember it was a big deal. A few years ago, they had bought another one.

1993.857 - 1996.961 Bryan Green

I believe, if I'm not mistaken, PayPal bought Honey.

Chapter 7: How do natural disasters affect communities and insurance policies?

2521.729 - 2526.435 Bryan Green

But this is just like how fast these fires are engulfing entire neighborhoods.

0

2526.515 - 2536.127 Krissy Hoadley

I know. And on top of that, I want to say I hope that the politics can stay out of it. You know, I read something today where a Republican is wanting to withhold aid.

0

2536.107 - 2538.991 Bryan Green

Yeah, because it's a mainly liberal.

0

2539.612 - 2540.754 Krissy Hoadley

And that's just not right.

0

2541.014 - 2541.735 Bryan Green

No, it's not.

2541.755 - 2546.482 Krissy Hoadley

Let all of that go. Help the people that are out there as most, you know, as best you can.

2546.642 - 2566.132 Bryan Green

Yeah. If you had a fire insurance policy, you should be paid out. And I understand the insurance company's job is to make money, but you can't pull the insurance retroactively. That should be at least illegal under any circumstances. And I hope that California, the regulation board, holds their feet to the fire. They need to pay out.

2566.312 - 2584.301 Bryan Green

That will also mean, I guarantee you, a bailout from the government because the insurance companies will go under because insurance companies don't plan on 100,000 structures going up at one time. That means the insurance companies will tilt and they will go under. The government will have to come bail them out. I hope they do the right thing. And bail the insurance companies out.

2584.321 - 2604.589 Bryan Green

So the insurance companies continue to do what they do, and that's help people in desperate times. And if you're out in L.A. and for some incredibly strange reason are listening to the commercial break, we're going to put links up to 211 and Airbnb.org, two organizations that are helping people find long-term solutions.

Chapter 8: What are the hosts' thoughts on the current state of marketing?

2751.533 - 2758.964 Bryan Green

I have been to every available appointment except during COVID when there was about three months where they just had a policy where you couldn't go.

0

2758.984 - 2759.685 Unknown

Well, you couldn't even go in.

0

2759.705 - 2778.25 Bryan Green

Yeah. And that was absolutely miserable. I went to every appointment to the point where the nurses were like, I think you've set a husband record for being at every appointment. Yeah. I couldn't tell if they thought that was creepy or if they were giving me a pat on the back. You know what I'm saying? He's got an OB-GYN kink. I got an OB-GYN kink. I want to be there.

0

2779.445 - 2790.182 Bryan Green

Well, I also got along with the OB guys. I got along with the obstetrician, the optometrist. I also got along with her eye doctor, the optometrist.

0

2790.202 - 2790.723 Krissy Hoadley

That's good.

2791.304 - 2794.609 Bryan Green

In the Peachtree Dist with the optometrist going to Tarte.

2794.869 - 2796.833 Unknown

And the Santa Anta wins, as you said.

2796.853 - 2802.551 Bryan Green

Santa Anta wins. I bet we could make a whole episode out of Brian just misspeaking.

2802.571 - 2803.252 Krissy Hoadley

Yeah.
