Like when you have these things right. Thinking about how much chaos that we have lived with in this country for the last few years. And then as I was getting ready out of the shower, this alert hit the news and hit my phone that the FBI has arrested a suspect in the January 6th pipe bomb case. These are the same bombs that were placed outside the DNC and RNC. These devices forced evacuations.
They diverted security. They could have killed people. This was back during the time, remember, when folks were sending pipe bombs to news organizations and CNN, and I had to be evacuated from the studio. All of this is happening around the same time. They don't have a motivation yet. They don't know. I don't believe, as the last that I read, that they had even released the name of the suspect, but it is breaking news, so we could get it. We're now learning that this man, according to the prosecutor, spent years talking about overthrowing the government, fantasizing about political violence, okay? And so the Axios story, the political story that I read said, a man has been arrested on January 6th, in the January 6th, 2021 pipe bomb case, expected to appear in court later Thursday, which is today.
According to a person familiar with the development, who was granted anonymity to discuss the sensitive case, no arrests had previously been reported in connection with pipe bombs discovered outside the headquarters of the Democratic and Republican National Committee on the same day as January 6th Capitol insurrection. The bombs, which the FBI has described as viable, but did not detonate, were believed to be planted the day before. The perfect person to discuss this, who was actually there, almost lost his life, is Michael Fanone. He's a former MPD officer who served for 20 years, including some time as a U.S. Capitol Police officer. Michael, good morning. Thanks for joining. He's not here quite yet.
