Not sure what's going on, but hey, everybody, welcome to the Don Lemon Show, Lemon Live at 5. Kamala Harris, fearless or failure? There's a reason I ask that question. The Harris and Trump campaigns are scrambling to define all but certain the Democratic nominee with a major new television ad out this morning. We're going to show you the ad in just a little bit. I have some great guests for you. You see Greg Hurwitz there. We're going to get to him. Greg is a – I think you can call him a friend of the show. He actually has a strategy for the Harris folks. Then there's a new 60-second spot from Harris titled Fearless.
is heavy on the biographical details portraying her accent to, ascent, excuse me, not accent, ascent to the vice presidency as a years-long crusade of holding big banks, drug companies, sexual predators accountable, et cetera, et cetera, as a prosecutor. She is leaning now into her prosecutorial experience, her top cop experience, something that she could not do in 2020 because of what was happening there. In the world, i.e. George Floyd protests all over the country and really a lot of protests all over the world. Meanwhile, Republicans appear to be a bit more flustered with no one coherent, not one coherent message around the vice president. Some are attacking her as a soft on crime San Francisco liberal.
Others are saying that she was too tough on crime and locked black men up. That part is not true. And we're going to tell you why it's not true. And we're going to give you information on her. Many Republicans are leaning into the racist, sexist, quote, that she is a DEI hire. It's insulting. Others are claiming she is not truly black. That's an old argument. I thought that went away with Barack Obama. Anyway, we have so much to dig into, and I'm thrilled to be joined by a phenomenal panel here. Greg Hurwitz, well, Greg now, we'll see if we get Monique. Greg Hurwitz is a novelist, a screenwriter, political strategist, a former informal advisor to the Dean Phillips presidential campaign, and a friend of the show.
Greg, how are you doing? I'm doing well. Seems like we can't keep up with the news cycle, can we? Oh, my gosh. It's a lot every single day. And that's why we keep like we have to we, you know, rotate guests in and out at the last minute. We're like, maybe this guest is not right for this. And so, you know, we're trying to get Monique because we think that she is perfect for it. But our thumbnail says Kamala is killing it. Do you agree with that before we get into the meat of what we're going to talk about? I think we're asking if she's killing it. I think it remains to be seen. I think there's a lot of room between killing it and failure, and I think she's in the process of defining herself. I think a lot of people don't know who she is yet, and she's got an opportunity to determine how she's going to introduce herself to the American public in a more broad way.
And I think that she has to define herself without letting her enemies or her opponent define her. And that's where we are right now. So this is what we're going to discuss. Democrats and Republicans race to define Harris, which I just said. Harris, has she settled on a VP yet? There's a lot of scuttlebutt about who it could be, who it won't be, who has issues, who's going to get her the battleground states, who sort of balances her out as a black woman. There's a whole lot of things. And then I don't know if you guys have heard about this, because the former guy, meaning, you know, DJT, has been asked to speak at, be part of a panel at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention, which also happens to be in Chicago this summer.
He is invited to speak at that convention and people are upset. one of the co-chairs of the National Association of Black Journalists, NABJ, has stepped down because of it. So we'll talk about all of that. So before I get started, I want to play, this is Vice President Harris.
