No, but seriously, I did want to talk to you about this whole thing about having National Guard members on the streets of Washington, D.C., and Donald Trump saying he's going to do it elsewhere. You saw he did it in California earlier this summer. What do you think about that as someone who is a trained former police officer?
Well, first, I got to look at it from the perspective of an American citizen. And, you know, as a citizen, I'm outraged. I'm outraged that Donald Trump, the president of the United States, would usurp the, you know, democratic process and usurp The voters of the District of Columbia who elected a city council, who elected a mayor to run their city the way that they saw fit and to go against their will. You know, it's interesting. I think the best way to sum it up, I was listening to our former employer CNN show with Addie Phillips and Scott Jennings, who I think is the biggest asshole on the planet, came on there and he said, I don't care. what the voters of the District of Columbia want. I don't care.
Now, this is a guy who doesn't live in Washington, D.C. He's never lived in Washington, D.C., doesn't know anything about Washington, D.C. And as some asshole TV pundit who represents the Trump administration, you know, in his own capacity, says that he doesn't care about the voters of the District of Columbia. And I think that really does summarize the moment that we're in. Is there a crime in Washington, D.C.? Yes. There's crime everywhere in this country. No place exists in the United States without crime. That being said, the ends can never justify the means in a democracy. You know, we, as a police officer, there were times where I wished that I had more resources and more tools at my disposal.
There were times that I felt as though I was restrained by the city council to do my job effectively. But at the end of the day, I was not a legislator. The city council is the legislature. They are voted on and elected by the residents of the District of Columbia. And if that is The way that the district residents want to be policed, then that's what they get. If you're a police officer and you don't like it, fuck off and go be a police officer somewhere else. And, you know, I also find it interesting and having spoken with a lot of D.C. cops in this moment, the ones that are embracing it do not live in the District of Columbia. And the ones that do live in the District of Columbia resent it just like the rest of us do.
I wanted to play this for you so that you could hear it because I'm sure you've heard about it. Maybe you haven't. If I can get the volume to come up. Donald Trump saying, talking about being a dictator. You ready?
But then he goes on television. He says, oh, Trump is a dictator. And a lot of people, so the line is that I'm a dictator, but I stopped crime. So a lot of people say, you know, if that's the case, I'd rather have a dictator. But I'm not a dictator.

I just know how to stop crime.

Well, I will say this. I certainly do not want a dictator. But I am also a democracy-loving American who cares about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Unfortunately, I mean, I've had conversations with people that, you know, I'm not going to go as far as to say that they would embrace the dictator idea, although I think that Once you actually get down to the brass tacks, that is what they are embracing.
