Can we please begin with this breaking news? We've learned that FBI agents have arrested a suspect who investigators believe placed pipe bombs outside the RNC and DNC headquarters in the hours before the January 6th insurrection. What is going on here?
Well, first, obviously I'm glad that this arrest happened. We actually don't have all the information yet, just what you're seeing in reports we've received as well. And so clearly this is someone that has caused and tried to cause major harm to both in a very bipartisan way, clearly both the DNC and the RNC apparently. And so I'm glad this person finally got caught. There was a lot of speculation online and conspiracy theories about this individual. And so it's important to get the truth, find out who this person is, and they should be held accountable for what they tried to do.
But you have no information as to motive or anything right now, right?
We don't have any information yet as to motive. So it'll be very interesting to find out. I think we'll learn a lot in the next couple of days.
OK, I also want to get your thoughts on the other breaking news, a big breaking news here this morning. Your colleague, Congressman Jim Himes, is a top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, met with Admiral Bradley and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff about the so-called double tap Venezuela boat strike. He told the reporters, and I quote here, he said, what I saw in that room was one of the most troubling things I've seen in my time in public service. Now, Congressman, you know, I know you know that you know Jim Himes. He's not one for hyperbole. He doesn't use bombast or anything like that. What do you think of his concerns?
Look, first, I mean, Jim Hines is one of the most respected members of the House. He does an incredible job in managing and leading us in issues that relates to intelligence, especially on the armed services side. And when he speaks, people listen. I think he's absolutely right. First of all, what Pete Hegseth has done on this issue, but also on the Signalgate issue and so many others is completely unbecoming anybody leading our military and certainly leadership at the Pentagon and worldwide leadership in all of the conflicts and diplomacy missions that we're involved in. And so we've said this before and I'll repeat it. Pete Hegseth should not be the secretary of defense or war or whatever he wants to call himself.
He should resign immediately. And I think that the boat strike issue is one of a couple issues that has risen to the level that it clearly shows that he is unfit for this position is really to be a cabinet secretary. And so I think Jim is right. And a lot of us have received briefings, whether it's on this or the kind of Signalgate issue, which we've received some classified briefings on, that are just outrageous in what Secretary Hagstaff has done, and he should resign today.
It is being reported that Admiral Bradley is going to justify, is justifying this strike, saying that the men aboard that boat are the ones who were hanging on for life, were somehow still a threat and trying to carry on their mission, which is an interesting way of putting it when a boat has been hit and it looks like they're just clinging to life, hanging on to the boat.
We have yet to see any evidence that's been presented to the Congress that justifies a strike.
What unanswered questions remain about the suspect's motive and investigation?
So there has been no evidence to this day. So if there is additional evidence that has not been shared with the Congress or our intelligence committees or the armed services committees, then they should do so immediately. But as of right now, what was the threat? And they have yet to explain that to us. So I think that's incredibly disturbing that United States does not go around assassinating people in other countries in open waters without it being part of a broader mission.
