Hello, everybody. Welcome to the Don Lemon Show. Thank you so much. This is breaking news. There you see Katie Fang up on the screen, the renowned journalist who is joining us now from the Midas Touch Network, formerly of MSNBC. Katie, we have some breaking news as it involves the Diddy trial in New York City. I understand they've reached a verdict, but there is a hang up, correct?
Yeah, there is. So as of right now, there was a five count indictment, Don, that P. Diddy was looking at. According to the jurors, they came back with a note saying that they had reached a verdict on four out of the five counts. And Don, the one that they're hung up on is the critical one. It's the racketeering count, which is one of the biggest ones that P. Diddy was looking at. As of the last reporting that I can tell everybody right now, The jurors came in. They were instructed by the judge to continue to attempt to deliberate. But the judge did say, being mindful of the time, it's almost 530 Eastern. He said, please send back a note when you go back to the jury room and let me know if you want to continue to deliberate today or if you want to come back tomorrow.
And so we're just waiting to find out whether or not they're going to continue later on tonight, which they can, by the way, Don. If they want to, they can work through dinner and continue to deliberate.
Now, here's what my sources are telling me. I don't know if it's 100 percent confirmed, Katie, but I'm hearing that they are going to go home. That's what I'm hearing. I'm not sure. But producers, you may want to to double check on that. But I am hearing that they possibly said that they're going to let them go home tonight and finish up for the evening and then come back tomorrow. But, Katie, you're right. That racketeering charge, that is the big charge. That is a thing that will sit him away for a long, long time.
Yeah, the other counts also have serious exposure for him. But it kind of makes you wonder, Dawn, as we kind of read the tea leaves here, if the jurors are hung up. And by the way, the note was very clear. It said that there were jurors on both sides with, quote, unpersuadable views. In my mind, obviously, that means that people are digging in their heels on both sides of the guilt aisle. And so if they don't believe that P. Diddy was responsible for some huge criminal enterprise that included the trafficking, the prostitution, the drugs, then does that necessarily mean that they believed P. the victims in this case, like Cassie Ventura. Remember, Cassie Ventura also is the victim in at least two of the four counts that they say that they have reached a verdict.
But Don, I want to caution everybody. Jury trials, total gambles on both sides for the prosecution and the defense. That jury could come back tomorrow, keep on deliberating, and they could change their mind on the counts that they say that they've already reached.
Okay, we need to remind you, you're an attorney, so you know what is going on here. So what does this say to you that they, on the most important charge, that they are hung up on this one?
Well, listen, they've been deliberating for more than 12 hours. And to answer your statement or to say, yes, I am attorney. I've been a trial lawyer. I've done criminal and civil jury trials. And there's a big issue when it deals with jurors. Jurors are people like you and me and the amazing people in the Lemon Nation. They are sitting there and they're trying to sift through more than six weeks of evidence. I will say, if you look at things like pornography, Portions of Cassie Ventura's testimony, the transcript, both sides agreed to let the jury check it out, Don. It went back to that jury room and say they were able to look at portions of her testimony. It does seem to me that they wanted to kind of secure what they thought about Cassie Ventura's credibility and the other victims in this case.
they are also making up the balance of those counts. And so the jury either says, you know what, I either like him or I don't like him.
