How are you doing? How is your Mother's Day? How is your weekend?
My mother's day was actually really phenomenal. So I live in Los Angeles and my mother is out here visiting. And last night I took her to see Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, and Stephanie Mills. She has long wanted to do this, see them in concert. And a more special treat was that Chaka Khan brought out Stevie Wonder. And it was, when I tell you my mother got her whole life She sung everything. She was up and down screaming. She was shouting, we love you, Shaka. Like she was fully immersed in the experience. And she, you know, it really made me feel good that she was like, this is one of the best experiences of my life. And I'm glad we got to experience that together because this was all the music she played for me when I was growing up.
And so for her to get to see her favorite artists live and they did all of his, I mean, their catalogs are so deep. So I might've been the youngest person there, but that's okay. It was, it was a wonderful time.
Oh, that's fantastic. You're setting the bar so high for like all the daughters here who are now sitting here like, wow, I did not do that. Flowers were not enough.
Well, as soon as they announced, as soon as they announced that they were all going to tour together, I was like, I got to go see this with my mom because I know how much she loved their music. And she's a music fan in general, but like really that was, you know, her era of music. And so it was just special to see her just like so delighted. And I wasn't the only child with that idea because the majority of people there, you know, it was quite a few older people there, but many of them were brought clearly by their children. So like we all kind of had the same idea.
Oh, I love that. That's amazing. That makes my heart grow, which is good because it's about to shrink as we talk about the bullshit of the day. Shatters it more. So let's get into it. For those of you who may have missed the morning show, you're not aware of all of the nonsense, all of the. Shitty, awful headlines that came out of Trump's press conference this morning. In particular, I think we have a full screen from the BBC. The first group of white South Africans landed in the U.S. this morning under Trump's refugee plan. Jamil, I want to get your reaction in a second. But first, let's just unfortunately take a quick listen to some of what Trump had to say earlier this morning. and discrimination in their home country are heading to the United States, where your administration is going to welcome them as refugees.
Now, this comes as you halted virtually all refugee admissions for people fleeing famine and war from countries like Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo. Why are you creating an expediting path into the country for foreigners, but not others?
Because they're being killed. We don't want to see people be killed. Now, South Africa leadership is coming to see me, I understand, sometime next week. And we're supposed to have, I guess, a G20 meeting there or something. But we're having a G20 meeting. I don't know how we can go unless that situation's taken care of. But it's a genocide that's taking place that you people don't want to write about. But it's a terrible thing that's taking place. And farmers are being killed. They happen to be white. But whether they're white or black makes no difference to me.
