And it went on to say that after a thorough investigation, FBI investigators concluded that Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City on August 10th, 2019. The memo goes on to explain why further files will not be released by the Trump administration. Information related to Epstein's victims is quote, intertwined throughout the materials. It says, one of our highest priorities is combating child exploitation and bringing justice to victims. Perpetuating unfounded theories about Epstein serves neither of those ends. MAGA is tearing itself apart over this. Much of the MAGAverse thinks Attorney General Pambandi is lying or calling for her head. New theories are spinning out to try to explain it all. Maybe Donald Trump is on the list. Maybe Donald Trump or his administration is being blackmailed by the intelligence services. Maybe Donald Trump is now himself using that list to blackmail others. Maybe it's all part of the plan. Or maybe there was no list. Maybe MAGA's elite were always playing their followers for fools. The juicing of the Epstein conspiracy, the promise that there was this list and it would be released, was not a small project confined to a few outliers in the movement. This one went right to the top.
In October of 2024, J.D. Vance, as the vice presidential candidate, said, we need to release the Epstein list. Release the list, please. Seriously, we need to release the Epstein list. That is an important thing. In January of 2025, Peter Thiel wrote an op-ed for the Financial Times calling for an apocalypse of the old regime secrets. The truth about our world, he said, had been kept in the shadows by the distributed idea suppression complex. But the widespread belief that Epstein did not die by suicide showed that complex was dying. Trump's job, Thiel said, was to finally kill it, to throw open the door on all the secrets. We would finally have truth and reconciliation. MAGA has a cosmology. It has a mythology.

What happens if you read the files and you realize that there's some reason you can't release them?
