Chapter 1: Why should we be cautious about calling the Knicks title contenders?

0.031 - 3.576 Colin Cowherd

This is an iHeart Podcast. Guaranteed human.

0

5.158 - 21.441 Unknown

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.

0

21.982 - 27.81 Clifford Taylor IV

Within probably 10 days, I put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

34.557 - 45.287 Robert Mays

Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast. Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars fans, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes.

45.707 - 64.564 Robert Mays

Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of Tauntauns and Wampas on the ice planet Hoth, or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith Rule of Two. Listen to Stuff to Blow Your Mind on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

64.544 - 72.082 Stephanie Young

In 2023, Bachelor star Clayton Eckerd was accused of fathering twins, but the pregnancy appeared to be a hoax.

72.343 - 75.751 Colin Cowherd

You doctored this particular test twice, Ms. Owens, correct?

75.911 - 84.547 Stephanie Young

I doctored the test once. It took an army of internet detectives to uncover a disturbing pattern. Two more men who'd been through the same thing.

Chapter 2: What critical flaw does Colin Cowherd see in the Celtics' team?

342.166 - 367.671 Colin Cowherd

Maybe I'm wrong on that. The question is, it's a complimentary roster. It is a good roster. Remember, in the NBA today, there are no more KD, Steph, Klay, Draymond, Golden State Warriors. There's no more MJ, Bulls, Shaq, and Kobe. The new caps, the new aprons, that's over. There's no great teams. Last seven years, we've seen seven very good teams. You can be very good and win a title.

0

368.092 - 391.146 Colin Cowherd

That's why I think Boston, San Antonio, and OKC are the teams I see. They're very good. OKC with a shot to be great, just because of their historic numbers. So it's not enough. This series should not have been this close. Now, give Atlanta credit. Quinn Snyder's an excellent coach. They pulled a lot of levers in the first couple of games in this series, forcing Mike Brown and the Knicks

0

391.48 - 412.476 Colin Cowherd

to get Carl Anthony Towns to do a little point center to free up their players, and it worked. Mike Brown, you know, in New York, they always want to fire the coach. Mike Brown and his staff did a very good job. Quinn Snyder and those guys outcoached them the first couple of games. Mike Brown shifted second gear, pulled the right levers. Here's Mike Brown after the series win.

0

413.536 - 436.438 Mike Brown

We changed the way we played offensively and defensively about halfway through the season. And we changed again after game three. They forced us to put our thinking caps on, and they forced us to play different, find ways to make the game easier for our players while putting them in their strengths, while trying not to hinder them, you know, so...

0

437.161 - 446.999 Mike Brown

We changed what we thought offensively, but again, it was because we were pushed to do it, but we felt pretty good about what we fell into.

448 - 465.301 Colin Cowherd

Now, after the Knicks won a couple of games ago, everybody went crazy in New York, and there was this headline, Brunson's got 39. 39, the Knicks are back, and I said, no, no, no. The headline should have been a couple of wins ago for the New York Knicks. Knicks are doing what they're supposed to in the first round.

465.782 - 494.646 Colin Cowherd

But I will say, I'll give you a cooler headline after last night, after a 65-10 playoff run. Okay, Knicks, that was kind of impressive. That was kind of impressive. I'll give you that. All right, now the other story. So we said before the Denver-Minnesota series, Minnesota's got a much deeper, better roster. Denver's got Jokic. And the deeper roster won, even without Ant. And David Genzo.

494.867 - 520.169 Colin Cowherd

Okay, so that tells you the depth of talent Minnesota has. Very good GM, very good coach, very good front office. So... What the Denver Nuggets, their season's over. What they've become is Milwaukee three years ago, where they have this legendary big, they win a title, and then it's fear-based decisions, clinging to older players.

520.69 - 552.577 Colin Cowherd

Because they're a smaller or ignored market, they don't know what to do. And everybody around Milwaukee, like the Celtics, was getting better. Well, now everybody around Denver is getting better. Houston's youth. Minnesota's depth. OKC and San Antonio's youth. You are Denver with Jokic. You are Milwaukee about four years ago. You win a title. You start getting old. You're not athletic enough.

Chapter 3: What insights does Robert Mays provide about the Steelers' QB situation?

639.466 - 660.641 Colin Cowherd

Jamal Murray's not athletic enough. Aaron Gordon's good. There's a huge market for him. He can't stay healthy. So I said after the first game, Denver's got the best players. The rosters aren't even close. And usually in the NBA, if you've got the star, but the problem is Minnesota has the better coach, the deeper roster. I mean, Minnesota last night had a guy, Tarrant Shannon Jr.

0

661.342 - 682.41 Colin Cowherd

The guy didn't play. And then last night, he's just a young kid out of Illinois. That guy's not even in the rotation all year. And last night, they're like, yeah, we need you to take over and make big decisions. 24 points, no turnovers, running the show. It's like having a backup quarterback in the NFL. And you look up, you're like, is that Josh Allen? Well, what's happening here?

0

682.65 - 709.204 Colin Cowherd

This kid just takes the game over. So the depth of talent with the T-Wolves is insane. But Denver, don't do a Milwaukee. Rip the Band-Aid off. Jokic is still on any given night the best player in the world, which Giannis was any given night four years ago. But Milwaukee freaked out. They got old, clinging to older players. Then they make desperate Damian Lillard moves. Don't do that, Denver.

0

709.725 - 710.826 Colin Cowherd

Here's Jokic after.

0

711.683 - 714.648 Nikola Jokic

I mean, they just lost in the first round, so I think we have probably a raise.

Chapter 4: How did the Knicks perform against the Hawks in the playoffs?

716.05 - 728.809 Nikola Jokic

Do you feel like changes? Like, what type of changes? I mean, that's not my decision, to be honest. Definitely, if you're Serbia, you will get fired.

0

730.371 - 751.456 Colin Cowherd

Yeah, this happens in the NBA. If you look at right now, what have we seen in the first round of the playoffs? This league is changing quickly. First of all, the drafts are getting better. Like a few years ago, Minnesota gave up like nine draft picks for Rudy Gobert, and it felt reasonable. You're like, well, the draft is no good. It's a one-and-done draft. That's not the draft anymore.

0

751.496 - 769.5 Colin Cowherd

This NIL is keeping kids in longer. Fewer guys are going to the NBA draft, making themselves eligible, so college basketball is better, and the draft is giving you older, bigger, stronger, more experienced, better players. Last year's draft was unbelievable. This year's draft is better. So you can't give up the draft picks.

0

769.48 - 798.762 Colin Cowherd

right so but the reality is we watch milwaukee and they just kept clinging to older players like don't do i like jamal murray a lot he's made one all-star game he's got a market you gotta trade people when they have a market by the time the bucks want to move a chris middleton there's no market now murray's got a mark aaron gordon gordon's got a huge market and if you had to keep him i'd be okay with it because i really like him as a player but he's having durability issues he plays incredibly hard

0

799.298 - 825.074 Colin Cowherd

But you're seeing right now in this league, OKC's roster, crazy. San Antonio's roster. Houston's roster. Minnesota's roster. The top four teams in the West. I mean, these rosters are crazy athletic. They're young. They're long. They're flexible. And Denver... You bring the – that's why I say the Lakers. You bring the band back. You're already the oldest starting five Lakers.

825.214 - 850.123 Colin Cowherd

You can't bring the band back in the West. Maybe in the East you can do it. You can't do it in the West if you're Denver or the Lakers. You can't do it. Everybody's getting younger. Everybody's getting better. Denver's not. They just have the world's best player. All right, J-Mac, fun first round. Now, the Celtics have been forced into a game seven. It's been a livelier first.

850.143 - 872.702 Colin Cowherd

You know what I love about the first round? It creates stories. Yeah. That's what it really creates. What do we do with LeBron if you own the Lakers? And Denver, you've become the Bucs. What do you do now with guys like Jamal Murray? The Knicks, that's... The last two games for the Knicks, you're like, I don't think they are, but are they the best team in the East?

872.942 - 891.939 Colin Cowherd

If you're a Knicks fan, Colin, you've seen the Sixers. You've seen the Celtics. You beat the Celtics. Who would you rather face next round if you're the Knicks? I don't think there's an easy answer, but... I think I might have to go to Boston. Paul George has had a great series. And Joel Embiid is healthy and looking pretty good.

892.44 - 903.838 Unknown

Max, I would rather face the Celtics than the Sixers. I know that sounds crazy. Celtics are huge favorites in Game 7, but I'm not scared of Boston, Colin. You watch that team. They do not look like a great team.

Chapter 5: What led to the 76ers pushing the Celtics to a game 7?

1179.724 - 1203.719 Colin Cowherd

We'll tell you what can... They're trying to put kind of boundaries around this relationship, which is hard for Aaron Rodgers because he's kind of boundary-less. My point yesterday was, and I came on the air and got a lot of pushback from Steeler fans, my push yesterday was, listen, you view yourself as an elite franchise, but you're really actually closer to the Jets in Cleveland.

0

1203.739 - 1224.211 Colin Cowherd

I'm not saying you are the Jets in Cleveland, but you're closer to that than you are the Rams because no elite organization would let a 41-year-old quarterback hold them hostage. Aaron Rodgers has become, over the last five off-seasons, a TV show. He's got a different storyline every season. I went back five years ago in Green Bay. Remember the off-season?

0

1224.771 - 1250.157 Colin Cowherd

Aaron Rodgers wants to be host of Jeopardy. Will he retire if he lands the job? That was the headline. I looked it up this morning. Three years ago, it was the darkness retreat. Aaron got a little kooky on the darkness retreat. Two years ago, it was the Egypt trip where he didn't show up to a mandatory minicamp and his friend Robert Sala had to make excuses.

0

1251.058 - 1277.033 Colin Cowherd

And that year was also the Aaron possibly would be RFK's running mate if he becomes president. And then last season, it was the secret marriage, and Aaron just sort of disappeared. So, yes, he reinvents himself more than Madonna. That's fine. But my entire point is, the Eagles, the Rams, they're not allowing this nonsense. And at this point...

0

1277.722 - 1298.249 Colin Cowherd

The Jets would, and Cleveland would, because they're what I call low self-esteem franchises, where they're more desperate, they're more willing to allow stars to dictate terms. As much as the Rams like Stafford, they put the foot down last year. Here's the number. If you're interested in the Raiders, go to the Raiders. Here's the number.

1299.39 - 1315.198 Colin Cowherd

That's with Matt Stafford, who right now is a much better quarterback than Aaron Rodgers. So the Steelers have created this tender relationship for Aaron Rodgers and his agent. Nobody knows where Aaron is. Nobody knows if he's going to play. But that was my entire point.

1315.258 - 1333.038 Colin Cowherd

If you want to be viewed as an elite franchise, you can't be held hostage by a 41-year-old quarterback who now has gone from running with RFK to the host of Jeopardy to kooky darkness retreats to a secret marriage. At some point, you've got to have some pride. Here's McCarthy on that quirky tender they signed.

1333.799 - 1357.56 Mike Brown

It really doesn't have any effect on it. It's just really a a business uh transaction that puts us in position to potentially um again a comp you know compensatory pick you know down the road and uh you know frankly if if if we didn't you know do our administrative duty here we would you know we should be criticized for it so that's that's that's the only intent

1357.54 - 1372.63 Robert Mays

um of this process all right that was on mark madden very popular host in chicago uh pittsburgh show be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays at noon eastern 9 a.m pacific on fox sports radio fs1 and the iheart radio app

Chapter 6: What are the implications of the Knicks' recent playoff success?

1584.802 - 1611.142 Colin Cowherd

There is so much young talent. Houston, OKC, Minnesota, Spurs. Those teams are just stacked. So I got to talk about this before we get to our guest. I kind of have a rule in life. And people sometimes will say to me, how come you don't talk politics? And my take is it's hard enough to do sports well. I don't need Bill Maher. and Ben Shapiro giving me their NFL picks.

0

1611.162 - 1630.993 Colin Cowherd

They're good at the political thing. I don't need their football picks. You don't need my politics, okay? But I've had this theory is that almost nobody, even gifted people, can't be great at two things. Michael Jordan tried baseball, Beyonce tried acting, Bill Gates tried marriage. Listen, people cannot be great at two things, okay? That's just my rule.

0

1631.193 - 1655.393 Colin Cowherd

But what happens in football is you get Belichick, who is so respected for his football knowledge, you give him power in the draft. And he was a terrible drafter. Terrible. Kyle Shanahan has got so much aptitude as a coach. He is so respected. Half the league is using his schemes that I think he has way too much power in the building with personnel.

0

1656.114 - 1682.366 Colin Cowherd

And I'm not denying that the Niners have done very well with some late round picks. Brock Purdy, Juwan Jennings, Kittle. I'm not denying that. but they have missed and reached on a lot of first, second, third-round picks. I'm not denying they've had, like, Hufunga at USC was a great player. Injuries he dropped. He's been a great player when he's healthy. I'm not denying that. Okay?

0

1682.466 - 1705.783 Colin Cowherd

I'm not denying that. He's no longer there, but I'm not denying that. But I listened to Kyle Shanahan. I heard a bite yesterday. It was on the Rich Eisen Show, and he was talking about their theory on how they draft. And I'm like, I don't know. This doesn't sound like the way I would do it. Here you go. It's hard to catch up with all those guys, so you got to depend on a lot of other people.

1706.724 - 1720.465 Colin Cowherd

One way we do it here is we give all the position coaches, you know, a responsibility to make highlight tapes on everybody. And, you know, they got to watch a lot of game tape to make those highlight tapes. And then I study their highlight tapes and always tell them if I don't like their highlight tape, then I'm not going to watch anything after.

1720.505 - 1726.735 Colin Cowherd

So those guys got to put a lot of work into their highlight tape because if they can't impress you with that, I always say, what's the point of watching more?

1726.715 - 1737.131 Unknown

which I would love to watch more, but that's the way you can get it done in a two-month time frame. And when you do get it done, I definitely don't want to look at any more college ball until next February.

1737.872 - 1762.857 Colin Cowherd

I don't know. Maybe that's the way to do it. But ask yourself this. Who are the two... What are the two best rosters in the NFL? In my opinion, Philly and Seattle. What do they have? Great and powerful general managers who can keep the coach at bay. Yeah. Howie Roseman. Hey, Nick, go down the hall. I got this. John Snyder. Power.

Chapter 7: How does Colin Cowherd evaluate the performance of the Nuggets this season?

1950.799 - 1962.862 Colin Cowherd

The other thing with the Niners, I think this is important to remember. If you go back and look at teams that we think have been poor at drafting over the last five, 10-ish years, go look at how many picks they make. And I think that's part of the Niners' problem.

0

1962.882 - 1979.428 Colin Cowherd

When you look at the Trey Lance trade and the fact that it's seeping out two first-round picks from the last five drafts, and then even beyond that, the amount of picks they gave up for Christian McCaffrey. I mean, when you're not picking, there are multiple drafts for the Niners when you're looking at it. They didn't pick until pick 61 in 2022, pick 87 in 2023.

0

1980.45 - 1997.919 Colin Cowherd

And so if you're missing those first and second-round picks, especially high top 50 second-round picks... your hit rate's going to look a little bit worse. So when you combine that with maybe some of the oversized influence that the coaching staff has, I think you get some of the results that you're talking about here, combined with the fact that their first round picks keep getting hurt.

0

1998.46 - 2017.897 Colin Cowherd

Ricky Pearsall can play, he just can't stay on the field. Michael Williams gets hurt last year. So I think there are a lot of different layers to what's happening in San Francisco. So the reason I defended the Ty Simpson move, I said, listen, You get to a point where the Rams is, they did plug a hole with a first-round pick. It was called Trent McDuffie.

0

2018.418 - 2035.303 Colin Cowherd

So of the two first-round picks, it's almost like people forgot. No, they really, their need last year was special teams upgrade and corner. Well, they fixed that before the draft started. So my take was they looked at their first round pick and they said, well, we're not going to be drafting here for a long time.

2036.084 - 2061.362 Colin Cowherd

Let's just use it and not get into a bidding war in next year's draft for a quarterback when Stafford's 39. And by the way, they've also shown an ability as a franchise, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh round to find players. So I didn't think the Ty Simpson draft was... you know, McVeigh was caught off guard. I thought it made structural sense. Did you? In some ways, yes.

2061.683 - 2077.367 Colin Cowherd

I think you could make an argument that it's still important to fortify certain areas where you're going to need depth over the course of the year. This is a perfect example to me. Last year, Robin Havenstein was their starting right tackle for a good majority of the season. He's at the end of his career. He eventually gets to a point last year where it's like, he can't play anymore.

2077.427 - 2091.087 Colin Cowherd

His body is just failing him. They have Warren McClendon as their swing tackle. They can throw him in there. They can survive with Warren McClendon. Well, now he's your starting right tackle. So would you have preferred to go tackle depth early in the draft to protect yourself for this year?

2091.547 - 2111.35 Colin Cowherd

Even if you can look at the starting 22 and think, would we rather have a future quarterback rather than one more receiver? I still think that building in contingencies for a year where you want to win the Super Bowl is potentially worthwhile. What you have to ask yourself is, is that better than facing the quarterback wilderness two years from now?

Chapter 8: What does Colin Cowherd suggest the Steelers should do with Aaron Rodgers?

2562.601 - 2584.335 Colin Cowherd

The one that's harder for me to get behind is I can't do the 4-3 kick returner in the third round. Just give me interior offensive line depth or something. That's one where even if you're trying to spin it, that one's a little bit tougher for me. But the first three picks and how they align with the Bears' identity and their needs, I think those you can make a strong argument for.

0

2585.076 - 2610.517 Colin Cowherd
