Welcome in. It is Huddle Up with Bucky Brooks, J.P. Shadrick, John Osher from the Miller Electric Center at the Hyundai Studios. A special Tuesday edition. Free agency week is here. The legal tampering period is underway. The league year begins Wednesday at 4 o'clock. So we move this huddle up to Tuesday today. And Bucky Brooks joining us in Los Angeles. The negotiation window is open. Legal tampering is here. It's amazing how quick multi-million dollar deals get done after that legal tampering window opens. Bucky, amazing.
It is amazing. I mean, guys are working overtime by multiple phones, making sure that they're simultaneously working deals with multiple people, because that's the only way to explain the flurry of activity that we saw over the first 24, 36 hours of reagency.
Well, you knew when they had the legal tampering period come in. What was it, seven or eight years ago? You knew all it was going to do was move the other tampering up. I mean, if you open a new window, they'd do it before that window. And look, it's fine. Everybody sort of knows it's a wink-wink. It's impossible not to because, as you know, Buck, even at the Combine, every team and every agent – everybody talks enough and it's not, it's not always true negotiation, but everybody sort of knows the market by the time free agency gets here, it's these guys livelihood to know it. So what are they going to do? They're going to talk like you and I talk, Hey, we think this guy, we think this guy, eventually everybody sort of knows the market for these guys.
So once the calls get made on a, on premium guys, there's probably not a whole lot of, you know, uh, mystery about who's worth what, uh, If there was, then you would wonder what the heck these guys are doing all year. It's their job to know the market, right? Oh, what's the market? How much do we have to pay Travis? Wait a minute. And they know.
I mean, like, there is something to that. Like in... Walking around the combine, not necessarily at the media part of it, but walking around hotels and you look up, you're like, oh, there's a general manager. There's an agent. They're ducked off in a corner. I wonder what they're talking about. You see that in a few different things. You see guys having meetings set up. And so a lot of this. The foundation was laid a couple of weeks ago while everyone was in Indianapolis.
But look, for people to say, well, that's tampering. Everybody sort of knows who's going to get signed beforehand, too. So I get it. Some of it goes on. But the teams that want to get their guys back, they get their guys back. So I'm not sure that a couple of agents and GMs talking in Indy changes the shape of what's going to happen with a player in his current team. If the player is going to go back, he's going to go back for the most part. And it's life. There's going to be a negotiation. You can't stop it. You can't – look, if they want to hang out at high velocity and talk – First, they've got to get past Bucky.
No, no, no, no. There's a lot of stuff that doesn't take place at high velocity.

More in the concierge rooms, concierge lounges. You see guys dug off in corners with representatives and those things. But you're right. Particularly for your own guys, a lot of times those conversations are being had up until free agency begins because you can offer them a deal and you're like, hey, like, You know, it's probably your best interest to take this before they get in the marketplace, and then you talk about the money being gone. And so sometimes those last-minute deals that we see with our own players are because those deals came through, and, like, it was too good to pass up, so you just go ahead and sign and agree to the deal.
