How did the Jaguars bounce back from their Week 2 loss to the Broncos?
Welcome to Jag Dam and happy Victory Monday to all of you. I'm Kainani Stevens. Brian Sexton and John Ozier are with me today as we get ready to recap another beautiful Jaguars win and a dominant one at that. Let's get into our big things brought to you by GEHA Government Employees Health Association. And big thing number one was a response. It was a word we heard a ton this week after a lackluster week of practice and a poor performance in Denver. This team wanted to get back to their roots and they had a bounce back win.
Yeah, I think it was a good response. You know, I think it was the response we were looking for. It was the response we talked about all week. Um, you know, winning the game in all three phases. And uh, you know, it was it was fun to watch. We talked about you know, w you get what you emphasize so much with this team and Uh we emphasized the special teams with the coverage and and obviously with the return and end up hopping one. Uh well we emphasized getting our hands on some more balls in the secondary and I and and obviously we were able to do that, getting after the quarterback and affecting them in different ways. I think we were able to do that. Um and then running the football more effectively and more efficiently, which which you know kind of showed up today as well.
Brian Lee and Cohen wanted a response from his team and he got that and more.
Kai, say it with me. Controlled burn. Oh. He executed a controlled burn last week. He got his team back to the basics. Practicing the way that he wanted them to practice. Now you might recall that the last controlled burn was November of last year. And they came out and won 35 to 6 and had the opposing quarterback out of the game in the fourth quarter. Remarkably similar, right? Liam Cohen is very good at getting his team back on track where he wants them to be. And they did it all on the practice field last week. I was out there, I watched, I saw a team that I thought practiced well, and then Liam confirmed. it for us yesterday. John, this is a guy that when he has his team playing the way he wants to, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, is very difficult to beat on Sunday.
Yeah, I don't know how many houses we have to burn down, uh, to get to the point that farms burned down. But look, they responded to Liam. Um I thought it was a day where as Jaguars observers and fans get used to this team being one of the better teams, is gonna have to realize that the early part of the season can be figuring out. And I'm not I'm not saying they weren't motivated. I'm not saying there wasn't a burning farm somewhere, but Sometimes you're trying to figure out who you are early in the season. You're playing different teams that are doing that. I thought Denver was a little bit of that last week. And I thought on Sunday a motivated team played to its identity. I thought that was pretty cool.
Was pretty cool. Let's go to our second big thing, which is playmakers. We talked about that Broncos game. They didn't get the catch, the kick, the turnover that they needed in crucial moments.
How did Jaguars playmakers turn Patriots mistakes into game-changing takeaways?
Flipped a week three, they were able to capitalize on all of their opponents' mistakes, including turning the ball over and takeaways, including Travis Hunter's first career interception.
For me, I know he he tried me a couple of times so I was just in the in there saying I'm I'm getting too close to the ball, I gotta get me one so you know, we just continue to just do what the coaches schemed up for us and we just played our best ball today.
Donald, we talked about last week was Travis Hunter not getting enough snaps. He got enough snaps on defense this week and he got his first turnover.
Yeah, it's it's such a moments league. I mean the Patriots a couple of times in the first half had chances to get back into it. Uh the Drake May fumble that that gave the Jaguars a chance for their first drive. This interception, uh I think you said it in the intro, Kai. This was a game on Sunday where the Jaguars made those plays at big moments. Patriots missed a couple. They had a touchdown
