Jaguars in the Wild & Greg Newsome Joins TealTalk
07 Jan 2026
Chapter 1: What details are shared about the upcoming watch party in London?
in Jacksonville, zero in Manchester. It's minus one in Swansea. This is Teal Talk, the official Jacksonville Jaguars UK and Ireland podcast presented by Gallagher. I'm Jay Lawrence. No relation. Keeps feeling a little bit under the weather today. And it is the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs for the Jacksonville Jaguars. 6 p.m.
Chapter 2: What strategies does Jason Bell suggest for beating the Buffalo Bills?
UK time, Sunday. Coming up on the show, details of the watch party in London on Sunday evening. You can watch the game in the company of your fellow Jags fans. I'm going to be there. Reece Parkinson's going to be there. There's going to be giveaways. We're also going to have Jason Bell breaking down what the Jags need to do to make it past the Bills.
An ever-present cornerback, Greg Newsome, joins us from Jacksonville to talk about the mood in the camp. Jason, I predict the mood is going to be good.
It is. You got Greg Newsome? Yeah. Hey, I watched a clip of him the other day in his backpedal, man. It was fantastic, man. I like his game.
I like the fact, I will ask him about this as well, that Greg Newsome played in London for the Cleveland Browns earlier this year and then went back to the U.S. and then got traded to the Jags and flew straight back out again to go play for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Hey, he's the man. Dude can play too, man. I really like what he's been able to do for that defense, man. It's a great upgrade. So you should have a really cool conversation with him.
What we're going to do is we're going to touch very briefly upon the last regular season game for the Jacksonville Jaguars, because let's be honest, how much do we care about it when we've got so much other stuff to talk about? Beat the Titans convincingly, 41-7. Obviously now, winners of the AFC South, your Jacksonville Jaguars, needed to do that. Did that game show you anything looking forward?
Key word you just said convincingly. That's what you wanted to see. You wanted to go in there and do what you do. You wanted to look hot. You wanted to look efficient. That's what they did. You don't want to go into this next game, especially against the Bills, feeling like you didn't play your best game or you didn't execute. They went out there. They did that. That was the key.
Trevor Lawrence, keeping him in there to get 4,000 yards. Loved it. So you're going in on a high. Practice is probably very intense, very focused, but yet very confident. And it's because of your performance last week.
You know what? This might be the best ever regular season performance from the Jacksonville Jaguars. I'm going to put it out there. Just to put into context, they finished 10-6 the year the Jags got to the AFC Championship.

Chapter 3: What is the mood in the Jacksonville Jaguars' camp according to Greg Newsome?
We're looking at one score, like two score, three score games a lot of the time, J-Bell. And the confidence that must be within this locker room going into the playoffs. I mean, that's what you want right now.
Without a doubt. And one thing they do well is they make you pay for your mistakes. If you make a turnover, they capitalize on it. That's what good teams do. When it comes to the playoffs, that's what it's all about. Minimizing your errors. And if you make one against Jacksonville, they're making you pay. And that's why they are...
If they're not the hottest team, they're the second hottest team. I mean, right now, you cannot argue with the way they are performing right now. They are at their peak. We talk about a season being long and being in quarters and having to be having to improve week to week. You hear these coaches. Hey, we keep chugging away. We keep building and we all think it's noise.
But you look at it right now and you look at where Jacksonville is. It's not noise because that's exactly what they've done. They've continued to fix problems, lean on their strengths and get better every single week. And now going into the playoffs, they are at their peak. They just need to keep riding this train.
I wonder what your highlight of the last game of the season was, J-Bell. I think it's got something to do with Trevor Lawrence and the celebration in the locker room afterwards. Do you want to explain what went on?
Oh, my man. You know, you have all these memes, Trevor with the grill, it's Duvall, you know, it's a part of the makeup, the fabric. It's a good joke, good fun. Now, the fact that everybody laughs about it and it's cool, that's one thing. And he plays up to it. But when you're a defensive player, gives a grill that they pay for, the team paid for,
To Trevor Lawrence, host gang, he puts it in, they laugh, they celebrate. Excuse me, I'm almost choking up on this because this is for real. You have to be enduring to your team if you're the quarterback. Now, we know Trevor Lawrence, he's low-key, family man, all that. But it's the little things you do. They showed how much they appreciate that dude with that gesture.
And he took it and he ran with it because he understood how important it was for them that he is one of them and that made him one of them. They know that they understand that they love that about him. You're going into the playoffs with your your quarterbacks playing the best he's ever played.

Chapter 4: How did the Jaguars perform in their last regular season game?
The team loves him. This is a guy who came into the season thinking I have a lot to prove. Do people like me? Do they care? Do they trust me? Do they believe in me? My goodness. That gesture said it all. We laugh, we joke, it's cool, ha ha. No, that meant a lot because that meant a lot to the community. That meant a lot to his team. That's what you need. You have a year to become a family.
One year, because it's a new roster every year. And you need to be tight, like a tight tennis ball at this point of the year. That showed it. That, my friend, showed it. And I've been in those locker rooms. I've had quarterbacks I really like, I really trust, whatever. Those relationships, those times, those moments, a defense, a bat giving it to them, you battle every day.
This is why they're dangerous. They are together. They're playing well. There's belief. They are a family.
And I think that, you know, you can't speak about that enough, really, can you? Because you can have really talented players on the field. But I'm going to use the word vibes. If the vibes aren't right in the locker room, then that is so detrimental to your chances, you know, going forward. And it just feels like everything is moving forward in the right direction.
And the other thing I want to say is, you know, let's move on to the Bills in one second. But the other thing I want to say is... No matter what happens this weekend, no matter what happens, what an incredible season for the Jacksonville Jaguars. What an incredible season for Liam Cohen, James Gladstone, to come in, to be ambitious, to put in this new system, to try and move the Jags forward.
And I don't know, I don't want to put words in their mouth for obvious reasons. I don't know if they ever thought that it would work so well, particularly in the second half of the season, but it has.
And also, what a brilliant moment for fans in the UK, for fans in Ireland as well, that follow the Jacksonville Jaguars, that have that hope that maybe the Jags can be competitive, can get into the playoffs and could be one of the favourites for the Super Bowl. And it's just happened within a year. I mean, it's been an amazing journey.
Unbelievable. Unexpected. When we saw the incremental growth this season, I thought, man, this is cool. Like, wow, all right, this is happening. And a lot of things, you didn't know if they were sustainable, but you kind of could see the identity coming through. So yes, we have to celebrate that. Let's be honest.
But if you're in that organization, you can't skip a beat, man, because I don't care what happens. You will be evaluated by this game.

Chapter 5: What insights does Greg Newsome provide about his transition to the Jaguars?
You get in the dance, how you perform. It'll be Trevor Lawrence. Was this in the regular season? What was he in the postseason? All of that. So you have to keep on task.
That's a good point. Hey, just before we move on, I just want to give another big shout out to, and you know that we love kickers here in the UK, J-Bell. You know that we love people that kick the ball with their feet. Cam Little, 67-yarder. I think it's something like the longest ever field goal outside. I think that I read that. I think that that's correct.
And obviously, he now holds the record for the longest and the second longest field goal of all time.
He's got so much swagger. That's what I'm saying. Once again, you have to have players that identify with the city. It's just what it is. This is what's unique. And if you've been to Duval County, you understand Beach Town, different flow, all that. Man, his swag, the way he approaches it, people love him. One thing about a kicker, I hate saying this because it's just crazy.
It's one of the most pressured positions in football.
Mm-hmm.
A lot of times you can't think about what you're going to do. You just have to go out there and play, right? As a corner, you got to shake it off and go to the next play. As a kicker, you're just thinking, you're thinking, you're thinking, you're thinking, then you kick. That's tough. The confidence they have in him, the confidence they have in their quarterback, think about it.
Throughout the game, championship formula.
Let's move forward. It's all about the wild card with your big five questions, J-Bell. Number one, straight up, can the Jags beat the Bills?

Chapter 6: What are the key matchups to watch in the upcoming playoff game?
So my sister fiance is from London. So it was actually pretty cool. You know, the first time we were there for a little I was like, you know what? I'm not shopping or anything. But then when I came back the second time, I was like, I guess this is just what I'm supposed to be. But it was super fun. Like I had a great time in London. It was amazing.
I hope to go back when I don't have to play a football game. But I thought London was was amazing.
You stayed in the same location as well. So, I mean, I hope they had that same hotel room for you both times.
I stayed in the same place. When I got a massage, the lady literally looked at me. She was like, hey, I was just talking to you. I was like, yeah, that was me. The people at the place knew exactly what. So it was funny. It was actually really funny.
That's funny. That's funny. Um, so have you, uh, did you say, was it your sister's fiance? You said is from London. You say, Oh, okay. So your brother-in-law, your brother-in-law, my brother-in-law. So as, um, does he talk about a lot about the UK? If you, you know, if you, do you ask him any questions at all?
No, I didn't ask him too much, but when I got out there, he taught me some of the little slang. I kind of forgot it a little bit now, but, um, his family's from Ascot. So, The second time I came out, his mom and dad, obviously it was such a quick turnaround. My family couldn't be out there. So his mom and dad came to the game again for me. So I had some family out there.
All right. Last question, Greg. I've asked loads of different Jags players this so far this season. I've got a variety of different answers. Let's see how this one goes. What is one thing that people don't necessarily know about Greg Newsome?
Yeah, the one thing, oh, that's a great question, actually. The one thing that people do not know about me, I probably will say just how selfless I am. I've always put the team first in everything, you know. I play through a lot of stuff that people don't know about. I don't complain. And, yeah, I'm just an ultimate team player.
Like, whatever the team needs me to do, that's my main goal is just to try to help us win. So I would probably say that the one thing people don't know is, like, I'm ā extremely loyal to my teammates and I'm a selfless teammate.
