And as we've just reached the top of the hour, let's pause 10 seconds before we continue with the postgame show for station identification all across the Jaguars radio network.
All right, the Jaguars drove down the field on the opening drive of the third quarter. I thought, as I look back, this was a really pivotal moment in the game. They get a penalty, an unsportsmanlike penalty that cuts half the distance to the goal line to the three. They've got it first and goal to the three-yard line. Mike, Mark with a chance to go up 17-3, and they lose two yards on first down. They get nothing on second down, incomplete on third down, settle for the field goal, and after that, the Broncos caught fire.
Yeah, and who knows what the Broncos would have done. Maybe they would have scored all those points regardless, but it felt at the time, if you could put a touchdown on the board and go up 14, the way that the Jaguars are keeping the Broncos off the scoreboard in the first half, that was going to be a lot to overcome, but they were unable to capitalize on it. Look, the Broncos can point to the same thing. They had their own goal line failures and zone interception. But, yeah, Coach Duff, that was one where you feel like if you punch it in to open up the third quarter, maybe you're setting the tone for the rest of the game.
I don't think there's any question about that, Mike and Brian. Really, they kind of took air out of the ball, if you will, when that happened. And, again, you've got to give them credit for making the plays to force the field goal. But, geez, when we get the ball first and goal on a three-yard line, we've got to get touchdowns.
A couple of other moments where things switched. Jaguars had the lead, and Trevor Lawrence threw his first interception of the season. Jags are up 13-6, and Trevor is throwing for Parker, and he was intercepted by Riley Moss. And the... Broncos go right down the field. And Bo Nix finds the tight end for the touchdown. And then the Jaguars miss a 54-yard field goal, which would have given them a 16-13 lead. And Denver goes from their own 44-yard line right down the field. Third consecutive scoring drive for Denver. 17 unanswered points. Took the lead 20-13. And at that moment, didn't know it quite yet. That was it.
Yeah, I mean, look, it was a terrible pass on the interception by Trevor Lawrence, at least from what we saw. The one angle that the television showed you looked like it was way too flat. Riley Moss is just sitting there waiting on it. Trevor, you put that on the outside shoulder of Parker Washington to try to lob it in there and let him use the sideline kind of as a... to ward off Riley Moss, but it didn't go that way. And Cam Little, we watch Cam Little, and we know talent-wise, he's got everything you want. And you talk about all these consecutive regular season field goals. Well, got a close game. You missed one, and he missed it badly. I mean, he hooked it badly. He's got more than enough leg. that kicking 54 in altitude for Cam Little is like the average guy kicking like a 38-yard field goal.
I mean, it's really, he doesn't need to put anything extra on it. And, you know, you go back to the Buffalo playoff game where he missed as well. So you hope this doesn't become a pattern in close games.
Our defense, in terms of sudden change defense, they've really done a good job last year and really starting off in the first game against Cleveland. But after Trevor's interception here, we give up the touchdown, which was surprising to me a little bit.
