Welcome in everybody. The Jaguars fall to one and one in the preseason, falling to the Carolina Panthers, thirty four to seventeen, the final tonight. Jaguars postgame brought to you by GEHA, Government Employees Health Association, benefits for federal employees and retirees. I'm Mike Debsey. Oh, Coach Duff back again uh to rabble rouse for the second week in a row. Coach, how are you? How are you?
Mark Duffner 0:50
I'm doing great and great to be with you and Fred. It's a legend real treat. The legend.
Mike Dempsey 0:55
You never know. It's preseason. We're happy to have you. Fred Taylor, Jaguar, great here with us. Uh wish the Jags could have welcomed you back with a victory tonight.
Fred Taylor 1:03
Uh you know what, i I do um I understand it. You know, I a former player, I I know exactly how it goes. Uh I the thing is preseason is a moment where everybody gets to overreact. One play A guy turns into a Hall of Fame all of a sudden. Or maybe a few other plays, that team, your team might go to the Super Bowl, according to preseason uh uh predictions. But you know, it it's good to be here. It's good to kinda see football back in the atmosphere, especially here in Jacksonville. Just kinda toured the stadium earlier.
Mike Dempsey 1:37
Yeah.
Fred Taylor 1:37
Man, that is a massive renovation job. Uh, but what I do love about it, even though it's gonna be limited seating, the intimacy of it all. Being able to have Duvall County, Jacksonville kind of come out and support their team no matter what. Uh I was talking to someone earlier and they said, Look, we could have probably just got a new stadium. They could have found some land somewhere, but to make sure you maintain this one the soul of every game that's been there since day one. That's right. And the fans are showing up as well on top of that. So I think that's the most beautiful thing about it all. But here we are, new season. New set of expectations. Gotta convince the fans to forget about last year somehow and uh move forward from here.
Mike Dempsey 2:21
Yeah, I mean look, last year is memorable, right? Thirteen win season, but it doesn't get you anything to start the season off. Duff. Everybody's owing oh. And by which by the way, you don't carry thirty four to seventeen this loss tonight. Won't matter. Right. Won't won't matter by Monday, but uh certainly won't matter three weeks from now.
Mark Duffner 2:38
No, no, no. And and really this team right now, the core of this team is back and they know how last year felt. Uh I know they felt like they left some meat on the bones, so I think I've seen in the both in in the spring when they had OTAs and what I've seen in training camp, they're determined to get back on track and and Reestablish toughness, reestablish production and fight their ways to get into the playoffs.
Mike Dempsey 2:59
I talked about this at halftime. Uh I don't think William Cohen could have been happy with eight first half penalties tonight. Nine, nine. Uh uh was it nine in the first time?
Mark Duffner 3:08
Nine in the first nine in the first half. Oh,
Mike Dempsey 3:10
it's okay, then they they were penalty free in the second half then. Nine for sixty in the first half. That's right. I think it was eight very late. And then they got the uh roughing the passer was the last one that they got right there. Um so you know, uh they cleaned that up, but they couldn't get anything rolling in the second half. Uh same halftime score by the way, twenty to six both weeks here. Um, Fred, there were some good things. Mm-hmm. Uh Amir Abdullah, one of those in the first half. He's had a really good offseason here in Jacksonville, and I feel like he was brought in as kind of a an emergency insurance policy when Chris Rodriguez hurt his foot when he first got here. Uh Doula goes from basically the last man in the running back room to right now maybe the next man up if Lequin
Fred Taylor 3:54
Quentin Allen can't start the season.
