Welcome to Jags AM. I'm kind of Stevens, Brian Sexton, John Osier with me today for this midweek episode as the Jaguars are getting prepared for their week two matchup against the Denver Broncos. Let's go over some of our big things today brought to you by GEHA Government Employees Health Association. Big thing number one is late night prep. They're taking on the Broncos in Denver, but the Broncos were playing on Monday night football against the Chiefs in Kansas City. So earlier this week, Liam Cohen said it would be a late night for him and some of the coaching staff.
Obviously, I have a lot of work to get done from now until the game is actually played tonight. So the coaches are extremely busy looking at, obviously, Denver post when we played them and sort of how they looked. We can look at the preseason a little bit because, obviously, they have a new coordinator, Colin Plays, and what his flow looked like and some of the rhythm and ways that he called the game. We can look at those. But, yeah, we've got to wait a little bit to see what they truly look like
Brian, I'm sure coaching staff watched last year's film as well, but after Monday Night Football, it might be a little bit confusing considering what that performance looked like from the Broncos against the
Chiefs. Without a doubt, and I had somebody say to me in passing earlier today, I wonder how long it will be until Sean Payton reclaims the reins. And listen, after the game in Kansas City in the early morning hours this morning, Sean Payton defended Davis Webb and said he would be evaluated like any player. So he was playing the standard line. But don't be surprised if he's not even more involved in that process, which kind of changes what the Jaguars saw and the tendencies and the rhythm that you heard from the coach. Listen, the Broncos are a good football team. And they had a tough night in Kansas City. They're going to be wound up. to come back and play at mile high. Where, John, they have been embarrassed twice in the last five regular season games, once by the Jaguars in week 16 of last year, and then once last night against Kansas City.
My guess is Sean Payton will have that team wound up and ready to go.
Yeah, and that's going to be a theme this week. People are going to say, well, the Broncos are going to be ready because of what happened on Monday night. As you guys know, after what happened last season, the Broncos were going to be ready for this game either way. So I don't necessarily think that, oh, the danger. The Broncos win, everybody say, well, they didn't want to go to 0-2. Well, nobody wants to go to 0-2. This was going to be a knockdown, drag out, full attention game. from the Broncos no matter what happened Monday. It'll be that way and it's going to be the first road test for the Jaguars this season.
But our second big thing, we're talking about that matchup last season with a huge marquee win for the team. So motivation going into week two, there will be something I'm sure Lee and Cohen will latch on to to motivate his team. But the importance of the win on the road last year, I think it can still have that effect this year. But will he be able to get everybody focused and not overlooking this during a tough stretch time, John?
Yeah. I've been around Liam for like 20 games, whatever the number is now. I haven't ever gotten a sense that this team hasn't been motivated. I thought he said it best after the game Sunday that he does not, he puts his head on the pillow on a Saturday night, very sure what Jaguars team's going to show up the next day. That to me spoke a lot of the bond between coach and team. They're going to be motivated because they always are. But I do think the message that we just talked about a second ago, Kai, they know that the Broncos became fully aware of the Jaguars last December, what they could do. That game was not close in the second half. The Broncos know that this is a big game, a marquee AFC game, Brian, even if other people around the nation don't yet see it that way.
