Hey friends, it's your pal Mike Shea from Sly Flourish here with another episode of Sly Flourish's Lazy GM Prep. In this weekly show, I go through steps from Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master and Rise of the Lazy Game Master while preparing for my Sunday role-playing game. In this case, we're running a high-level Tales of the Valiant game, currently high-level. It's actually gone on 90 sessions. I think this is 90, the 91st session of our Dragon Empire campaign, set in the world of Midgard. Using the Tales of the Valiant system. I thought the session went really, really well. I was very happy with how it landed. It felt a little manipulative, and I'll talk about that.
But I don't think it was really manipulative. It was mostly about I I built a situation. And I just kind of hid some of the facts of the situation from the characters in two ways. But they had lots of agency to do stuff. And I I did hold back one spot, which I'll talk about. So okay, what's going on? The characters are hunting down um Ibelin the illustrious. Uh Ibelin is one of the uh remaining seven Morza. They've killed one Morza, another one's already dead. Um they sent another Morza after a third after another Morza. So those guys, those two are taken care of. And now they decide to go after a big one named Ibeline the Illustrious. Ibblin the Illustrious is a ancient gold dragon covered in jewels, very vain, very like, how is my you know, the uh big on impressions, right?
Impressions over facts, and um uh has been you know pretty instrumental in like fighting a big chunk of the war on the West, but but very Very self-involved, not particularly bright. And the characters were going after Ibelin, and uh there was the uh the situation was that in the city of Mazar this is the situation that I set up. In the city of Mazar, Ibelin had been having huge celebrations every week to talk about How strong the Empire is and how well the wars have been going and that everything is great. And and her intention is like it's not, right? The Empire is falling. Like the Empire has already fallen. The characters realize that they have now pushed things over the edge and the empire is absolutely gonna fall.
And now it's mostly a how do we make sure everything falls in the way that we want it to fall so that the empire of the a lot of people aren't hurt. So that's why they're like going on, they've they've made big decisions. decisions about how to how the Empire should fall is kind of the this last arc of the campaign. It's already fallen. They've already they killed the number one threat, which was Lash Marak. She's dead and the rest of them are not gonna be able to stay together. And and the Empire is gonna collapse. The more the pact, the Marathi pact is already broken. Uh so that's really cool. Anyway, so but they're gonna go to Mazar because they they think Ibelyn is one of the last kind of l linch pins that could cause problems.
And even though she's not nearly as smart as Lashmarak was, uh, and and or as resourceful as Lashmarak was, she because she's kind of chaotic, they need to get rid of her.
