Uh and she's got her shoes on, everyone, so Uh but that's a little inside joke. But anyways, uh why don't you inside uh whoops, why don't you introduce yourself and tell us about your business?
Well, my name is Sean. Yes. And I am the CEO and administrator and owner of New Start Health Enterprises. Okay. It's kind of like an umbrella company to our new our other New Start companies that really do all the work.
Gotcha. So you're a serial entrepreneur with several businesses.
Yeah.
How does New Start bridge the gap between acute rehab and independent living?
All right. And so what's this new health uh industry or your business? Um, what kind of health are we talking about here?
So New Start was founded by my mother Mary Williams um back in nineteen eighty two. And um she's a nurse and she uh has a passion for uh rehab. So she uh um took care of a lot of spinal cord injuries and over five years, between seventy-five and eighty-two, when she started the company, she saw there was this huge gap in the in the healthcare system. Um she would follow patients home after acute rehab. And like, yes, you're you're going home. We've done such good work in it. And then she would see the success rate was um you know, it was dismal.

Yes. Uh the disabled person usually uh felt like they were a burden to their families and their families really had no resources or they really couldn't take care of their loved one the way they needed to.
Yeah, yeah. It's a it's a difficult situation, right?
Mm-hmm. It's very
um and so how does that lead into the company?
So that was uh forty years ago, um more than forty years ago. And I was in uh going into high school. Um, actually tenth grade is when she she first had her first. Client, patient. Um, she founded the company off of Medic Health. So he was just stuck in a skilled nursing facility, hospital like. Um, one of her patients for many years, and she said, Well, I have an idea. Why don't I just take him home? And she talked to Medi Cal and they said, let's try it. Well um You know, that's where it all started. He moved into our house. Like we moved out of the my home that I grew up in.
