I actually try to go where nobody else is at. Do something else that's attractive. We involve our company with a foundation called Tackle Tomorrow. It's Charles Haley's foundation, giving back to inner city kids in Dallas. That involves you with a whole array of people. You fail forward, you do the things that you like, that you want to try. And those aren't all wins. They're not supposed to be.
Rui Gutierrez 0:48
The secret is... It spans the globe like a super high school internet. Elvis! Today, Apple is going to reinvent the phone. It's not over until I win. The Living Your Legacy podcast. For those who live to leave a legacy.
Rui Gutierrez 1:20
That's extraordinary. The impossible. Oh, that is sensational. Open. Chicago with the lead. Usain Bolt is the fastest man on the planet. You cannot.
Jay Slangen 1:25
Hey, welcome back everyone for another episode of living your legacy podcast. I'm your host again, Jay Slangen, and we're here at the sunny Miami beach studios during the world cup fever. And we've got a special guest here, legacy maker. And, uh, yeah, let us know your name, introduce yourself and what's good. Yeah.
Thomas Drake 1:43
My name is Thomas Drake. I'm a roofing CEO in Texas.
Jay Slangen 1:46
All right. So we're in Texas. Yeah. All right. Which part is a big state?
Thomas Drake 1:50
Well, bigger than most countries, right? Huge state, no, but primarily DFW.
Jay Slangen 1:54
Okay. Yeah. That's Dallas, Fort Worth. Dallas, Fort Worth. Okay, okay.
Unknown 1:59
Dallas, Fort Worth. Sorry about that.
Jay Slangen 2:00
All right, all right. So, Jesus, now I think roofing Dallas is hot. Buskets. It's super, super hot, right?
Thomas Drake 2:11
Yeah, it hasn't got there yet this year, but generally it's, you know, you get in the hundreds, 110s.
Jay Slangen 2:15
Yeah.
Thomas Drake 2:15
Obviously on a roof, it's even, you know, it's crazy up there. So thank God for drones, right?
Jay Slangen 2:21
Okay. How many guys you got on your team? About 20. About 20. And yeah, how do you keep them safe up there with it being so hot?
Thomas Drake 2:28
Well, you got to go over safety protocols. You got to make sure guys know what they're doing. Of course. Sales guys do pretty well with it. You know, they don't have all the other guys, you know, that are around them. Obviously, the crews. Yeah. You know, they got to be all tied off with a harness. Yeah. And, you know, have all the safety equipment with them. So, no, I mean, we do very well. Our people are very well coordinated. Yeah. And take those precautions.
Jay Slangen 2:49
Yeah. They got the coolers. They got the ice pads.
Thomas Drake 2:51
Oh, yeah. Geez, man. No Modelo's at work.
Jay Slangen 2:54
Oh, my God. And they probably, hopefully they got sunscreen, right? My wife's always like, sunscreen, sunscreen, right? It's like the number one.
Thomas Drake 3:02
I think a lot of them you see have the wicker hat.
Jay Slangen 3:05
Yeah.
Thomas Drake 3:06
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Jay Slangen 3:07
Yeah, now they got the ones with the Bluetooth fans, right? Maybe upgrade them, you know? Wow. Okay, so like what kind of roofs are we talking about? Housing?
Thomas Drake 3:17
So we focus primarily on higher-end residential homes. All right. You know, that doesn't mean that we don't do, you know, a smaller home, a regular home.
Jay Slangen 3:24
Yeah.
Thomas Drake 3:24
What did you call a regular home? But, you know, we like to do whales, you know, obviously big, big roofs that we can win awards for. Yeah. We've done that a few years and that's part of our culture.
Jay Slangen 3:35
Okay. So what kind of roofs? I mean, I'm a muggle when it comes to this, right? Like if you're thinking about Harry Poggle, you got the muggles and you got the wizards, right? So I'll be asking you from a muggle point of view, right? But there's all different kinds of roofs, right? I think if I think about my home in Connecticut, it was like shingles, I think you call them, right? And then the ones that I'm in Thailand, right?
