Let's dive into it. all right so you know when we think about feminism money isn't always the first thing that comes in to mind right like usually it's maybe the last thing if it comes up at all right but it really is important when it comes to your
money, because for generations, like generations, like my mom, my grandma, I am not that old guys. I know sometimes I feel like I am because I just, I just in quotes turned 40 last year. That's what we're going to talk about. 40, you know, was last year. We're not going to talk about how old I turned this year. We're talking about, you know, 40 last year but you know a lot of these things have directly affected my mom my grandma and yours as well whether you realize it or not and i'm just gonna go ahead and apologize the dogs are in here walking around uh but
How did historical laws limit women’s access to bank accounts and credit?
I've ran out of time to get a podcast done this week, so we are going with it. And hopefully I can get the sound out as much as as much as I can. You would think that after podcasting for six years now that I would be better editing. But I'm not. So. All right. So, you know, our parents, our grandparents, maybe you listening, maybe you were even a child at the time. So you don't even realize that it affected you at all. But women weren't allowed to open bank accounts in their own name. They had to have a man on the account. In the 70s, that is not that long ago. My mom was born in the 60s. My grandma was born in the 40s. It was not that long ago. I was born in the 80s, you guys, in the 80s. So like not that long before I was even born, women could not have their own bank account.
They couldn't have their own credit card. They couldn't have a business loan. They couldn't have their own retirement. retirement accounts everything had to be tied to a man and that is why feminism is Important. Okay. Now let's break that down Feminism is just the belief that women should have the same rights as men like it is not radical so I'm always surprised when people are like they were I'm not a feminist as a badge of honor because Through the years, people have made it into something negative. And you know, why is that? I always like to think about why people think the way they think or why they do what they do. I have a degree in psychology. I'm actually thinking about going back to school and getting my master's.
I might actually start that next year. But you know, just something that I have... always done is wonder, well, why do people think that way? And that type of thinking of being a feminist as a bad thing in certain circles is because it gives us back our control, right? Who doesn't want us to have control, right? men that are in power, right? Like that's why we didn't have control over our own money before, because when we have control, we have options.
