So I want you to focus on what really, truly matters to you in this season instead of spending out of obligation, expectations, guilt, or even hatred.
And to make it even easier for you, I have a free holiday budget planner. It'll help you stay organized and super intentional this year from budgeting to gift list to meal plan. So grab it with the link in the show notes and you can get started on having a guilt-free and debt-free holiday season this year that you can actually enjoy because you are focusing on what truly matters. Now let's dive in. Hey there, welcome to the Money Mindset Podcast. I'm Ashley Patrick, realistic, judgment-free money coach, and I've been a money coach for over seven years. I break down the overwhelming side of money that keeps you in debt and living paycheck to paycheck. Let's dive into it. All right. Now that you have your free holiday budget planner, I want you to start thinking about what is really important to you in this season, because a lot of times what we spend money on and the stress of the holidays and the finances with the holidays and all the spending is based on our emotions.
So I know you've heard me talk about this before and 80% of our actions are dictated by our emotions. We are not computers. We're not robots. We are emotional beings. That's just part of the human design. And that is what really impacts our decision-making. And with the holidays, oh, it feels like it's just piled on more, right? Between family expectations, traditions... social media seeing what everybody else is doing right and seeing how pretty their holiday decorations are or maybe they're you know the food spread or the gifts under the tree you know just seeing all the pictures it can make us feel a certain type of way about what we have going on right now and that leads to a lot of overspending because we feel like we're
we should spend money on certain things or certain people expect gifts, or you just are feeling like you didn't do enough for your kids. Uh, you know, maybe you've always hosted a big dinner, but this year money is tight. And so instead of just simplifying, you feel guilty about cutting back, right? When, if you actually just told people, Hey, You don't even have to tell them the financial situation, right? But, you know, I'm an open book when it comes to that stuff. So I'll just, like, I just usually say it how it is. I'm not always the most tactful when it comes to, like, addressing issues. I just say it. But I'm sure there is a tactful way that you can tell your family that you don't want to host this year.
Just, you know, see if somebody else will do it. Offer to bring a side dish. or explaining that this year is gonna be a little bit more low key because of the season that you're in. It doesn't mean that it's gonna be that way forever. One of the clients that I'm working with, she recently had this conversation with her family as well, And everybody's good with it because everybody has different things going on. You know, her kids are grown, grandkids, things like that. And so, you know, things are allowed to change and shift as the season that you are in changes and shifts. And there's nothing wrong with starting new traditions and doing things differently. You don't have to do things the same way forever just because that's what you've always done, right?
So I want you to think about what actually makes the holidays special for you and your family.
