Hello, hello, and welcome to the Neuroaffirm Show. Today we are talking about neurodiversity affirming. sensory activities that you can do with your

groups for this month because it is the month of October for Halloween. I would say Halloween has got to be tied as my one of the top two holidays that are my favorites. Okay. And it's not like Christmas, Hanukkah, winter time that's my favorite. It's actually between Halloween. And Valentine's Day. And that is because when I was little, I loved more than anything coming up with Valentines, giving them to everyone in the class. That is still so fun for me to do as a parent. Fun to do here in the clinic. Okay. So just because we want to be child led. We're neuroaffirming does not mean we can't still have themes for our therapy. It is still so much fun using themes. I was talking about this recently with my therapists and with our online team, which is that so often themes can just be

for us. It gives us inspiration and makes things fun for us. We like to do new and different things. It helps us to open our minds to different types of activities that we can be doing. But the problem is that we don't have time a lot often to create these. So that is why we are talking about this today. Okay. So I am going to be sharing with you three different activities you can do. These are all great for groups, but they can also be done individually. And they are just to get kids moving, engaging with their senses. That is the entire plan. So oftentimes when you go and you download something. That's pre made. It's just a worksheet to have the kids sit at a table. So, with the stuff I'm going to be showing you today, there are resources that are printable that go along with it.

And if you are in our NeuroFirm Academy, those are in there for you.

How do you create a Halloween‑themed sensory bingo that engages movement and all five senses?

Sensory SLP 2:10
If you're not, you could join us in there and you could get them. If not, you can make some of your own. So you can have the printable version, but you're going to see how we are going to tie. tie these into how we can create more of a sensory-based approach. And therapists are always, always asking what can I do with groups. And these are some really good ideas for those of you who have wanted to know. So today I'm going to be sharing three different activities with you. The first one is something that is brand new just created. Another thing I'm going to be sharing is something that I've been doing since day one as an SLP. I mean, this is before I guess I even got my license. This is what I was doing when I was in classrooms.

And the third one I'm going to be sharing with you is something that We have talked about before and we've done before, but this time we're getting a nice little Halloween twist on it. Okay. And I also want to acknowledge I know not every family celebrates holidays in our clinic. We have some families who don't. Sometimes we try to make things more of a fall theme as opposed to Halloween, but we usually do a little bit of both in our clinic. But of course, totally up to you and your kids and what everyone is celebrating so that we can be inclusive of all families. Okay. So the first one we're gonna talk about. Is that the same? Before I get into this, I want to let you guys know we've been sending out some emails.

We have coming up A half day sensory workshop. So today we're talking a lot about sensory. It is coming up on Friday, October 24th. It's now AAC Awareness Month. And every October we do a workshop. It's a half day of how to integrate sensory strategies into sessions with your AAC users. So it's all about sensory and AAC. So if you haven't signed up, I'll put a link below. And then

What interoception worksheet (What’s Brewing in My Body?) looks like and how it supports body‑awareness language?

As we're talking about this, you'll see why sensory is so important to everything that we do in our sessions. Okay, so the first thing that I just created, I did not have AI make this for me. Okay, you guys, I made this for me. I made it for our clinic and now I'm sharing it with you guys, which is a Halloween bingo. And the reason why this Halloween bingo is so special is because it engages all the senses. So each of these
