What labels and titles do the hosts feel pressure to define themselves by?
Hello, hello. I'm Melissa. And I'm Donna. We're here sharing what we've learned as women, entrepreneurs, and moms. All while rocking our curves with confidence.
It's a behind-the-scenes look at our lives and businesses. And a chance to tell our younger selves, go do the things that scare you.
We talk about all our roles. All our roles. Too many of them. what are your names? So like we tell, Jim asked us, what do we want on our, our chyron, our chincharon, our chyron. And, um, what would you say?
I still don't know. Right. Like there's so many things that define and, and it's also tricky. Like what do you put first?
Right. Yeah. Do you want a definition though? Do you want to be defined as one thing? I don't think so. Yeah. It's hard for me too. So when he asked me, I said, I don't know, like, The roles we have, realtor, entrepreneur, jewelry designer, VP, social media, podcast. Like I just said, serial entrepreneur. I guess that's what you'd call me, but it's hard. Even when you enter a room, when you meet new people, like what do you do? Like what do you say? Especially when you have multiple hats, right? Yeah. The way you do. It's hard. I never know. Very different silos. Yeah.
Yeah.
I think I just go with what I'm feeling. It's hard. Again, it's hard for me. I don't like to define myself because I love everything I do. And in that moment, it's great. But it's interesting, as we've talked about before, if you've known me my whole life, like you have, you would know me with every hat I wear. But if you know me at certain points in my life, you would just know me with that hat and forward. So, you know, Like coming back into real estate when someone said to me, oh, why would you pick real estate as a career? And I was like, it was my whole life. Right. And then for me, the biggest one was jewelry, going into jewelry. And it's that I like I told you before, it made me feel. Like I just created jewelry at home.
Like I never really, I don't really, I've never really defined that as success. And I don't know why. I think that's a me thing. It's been very successful. I've done a lot of really cool things. And when I was rebranding or coming back to real estate, going through my brand and I had to answer these questions and they were talking about, you know, like name the things you've done, talk about the things you've done. I actually took a step back and was like, holy shit, like I've done a lot of things and why am I not proud of that? So do I define myself as one? No, I think I'm just who I am. And when I was at that networking event recently, um, empower her, I, they were, they were talking about branding and I said, you know, what do I do?
Like, how do I, especially on social media, my, you know, Instagram handles, I am Melissa Hall, but Do I put everything on that Instagram handle? Do I put my real estate? Do I put my jewelry? Do I put the hockey team? Do I put the podcast? Do I put all of that on one? And they're like, yeah, you are your own brand. So it's hard. Yes, we do have Instagrams for everything else, but it's hard. It is hard.
And it's... You've worn many hats. I struggle with it so often. Because you almost feel like you're bragging. I know. Brag about it. Sorry.
How do Melissa and Donna describe juggling multiple professional hats and roles?
I know.
You should plug. Yeah, but you know what? You should brag about it. You should brag about it.
Why are we so... You should be... I know. Why are we so hesitant to share? Why do we quieten ourselves? Be proud of our accomplishments.
I know.
It's a... Yeah. It's funny. And yet, like, our probably... What's your most proud role? It's probably your unpaid gig. Yeah. Ma-ma.
mama yeah and especially since they're older and you look at them and you you're always worrying at every stage i know you worry every stage you worry about when they're babies and then the toddler and then you look at them now and then there's certain things they do in their day and you're like wow that's pretty cool right like and sometimes it's hard to believe like for me at least that they're mine Like, I don't know. Not that they're mine, but, like, those, like, they came from us.
