Hello, and welcome to the official Xbox Podcast, the only podcast coming to you from inside Xbox. I'm Jeff with an update on a game that's been on my radar since its surprise reveal at Xbox Games Showcase 2025. Talking about Resonance, a Plague Tale Legacy. It's a game that reinvents the franchise by taking it back in time from previous Plague Tale titles. Less sneaking around, a lot more action, and at least From the parts that I've played so far, not a rodent in sight. It's coming to Xbox Series XNS, Xbox on PC, and Game Pass really soon, August 27th. So today we're gonna be showing a ton of gameplay from the opening hour or so of the game. I wanna avoid some spoilers, and and I captured this myself.
This is real footage. Yes, I can parry. You know, most of the time. So to tell us a lot more about what to expect from the rest of the game, I'm pleased to welcome Eric Chort, the lead producer from Asobo Studio in Bordeaux, France. Beyond venue, Eric. Yeah, yeah, thank you. Thank you so much. All right, thanks so much for joining us here at the end of your day. Uh, let's get right into this because there's a ton to cover in a Plague Tale Requiem back in 2022. We encounter Sophia as a supporting character. She helps Amicia and Hugo sail to an island that he had been dreaming about. A lot of crazy stuff happens over there. She manages to s to survive the events of that game, which is, you know, no small feat.
When did you know that the next step for the team was to tell more of her story? So when we finished
uh Requiem, we were like I I would say pretty much exhausted because it was a quite a journey for us, uh not only for the players with all the emotions that there is in the game but also for us uh as a team. It was like seven or eight years that we are working on uh on a game with Hugo, with Amicia, and all this story was really hard to put in a game. It was really really emotional for us. And um so at the end we were like, okay, um It's a a chapter that is closed for us, but we still like plague, so how do we s continue to to make a plague game without Hugo and Amicia?
Why did the developers choose Sophia as the new protagonist instead of Amicia?
And then the other part was um what we want to challenge us as a studio. Um what would be our next game in terms of gameplay? And we wanted to be more dynamic. We wanted also to have combat. So we were like, okay, do we have a character already present or do we need to create a new one? And as soon as we think about not Hugo and Amish again, but still play and more dynamic and combat. Sophia was a no-brainer for us. It was pretty logical with all a background that we already wrote for Requiem and all we wanted to do, Sophia was really, yeah, it was an evidence for us. So it was pretty at the beginning of the project when we stopped Requiem and think about the next step. Yeah, it was very easy and uh quick to choose Sophia.
So let let's go back to the reveal of the game. I keep thinking about it from uh Xbox Game Showcase 2025. There were a couple things in terms of imagery that really stood out in then and in the trailers that you've released since that time. So there's a Minotaur, there's a maze, the maze is right there in the logo of the game, a glowing rope. So for those not like super up on Greek mythology, there was the famous Minotaur that lived in the center of the labyrinth. Uh sacrifices were sent into there. Eventually These slew it and he had a lot of help uh with Ariadne and her golden thread. So uh first of all, great timing tapping into Greek mythology. Not sure if you know there's a movie that's got a lot of people uh
You may have heard of it. I don't know. It's got people very much into that. And something I personally find very appealing about these mythologies is like these places are real. Like I can go to Crete right now. I mean, it might be like really expensive. So so maybe not right now, but it it exists. You can go. And and I think people tend to wonder, like, which part of the myth was real? And is that something you're you're playing with here? Um, because obviously
