What are the details of Konnor Griffin's contract extension?

Joe 0:00
Great day for Pirate fans. The team's good. Connor Griffin signed. So let's go to the phone lines, Limits. Let's do it, Joe.
Unknown 0:09
Let's start with John, who's in Beaver Falls.
Joe 0:12
Hey, John.
Unknown 0:14
Hey, Joe, what's up?
Joe 0:16
You tell me.
Caller (from Beaver Falls) 0:17
Hey, hey, this is my favorite show to listen to during the day. I just want to say hi to you and Limits and the legend, Mr. Papiani in there. Pleasure talking to you.
Bob 0:24
Pleasure talking to you. That's awesome.
Caller (from Beaver Falls) 0:28
Yeah, I'm out here driving around in the fair town of Beaver Falls. I know a few guys. I think the show is hilarious, but you guys put a little additive.
Joe 0:37
We appreciate it. And you're driving around the home of one Ronald Cook, not to mention Joe Namath as an afterthought to Ron Cook. Dwight Collins, too.
Bob 0:46
Remember Dwight Collins?
Caller (from Beaver Falls) 0:47
A few months back.
Bob 0:48
Who, Bob? Dwight Collins. Do you remember him?
Caller (from Beaver Falls) 0:51
DC. That's my buddy.
Joe 0:52
Pit guy? Yeah. Football player. He's from there. Yeah.
Caller (from Beaver Falls) 0:55
Me, too, with Dan Marino at Pitt.
Joe 0:59
Well, what's on your mind today, Pirate-wise?
Caller (from Beaver Falls) 1:01
Pirate-wise, I called the GM team yesterday. I put my hot take out. They said it's hotter than lava, but my hot take is as long as Connor G is with the big league squad, starting a few games back, they were 4-4. They've been over 500 since. They're going to be over 500 for the duration of his nine-year career. That's my hot take. His teammates are going to step up last night the way they stepped up in the ninth inning and hit him. Once they got a couple guys going, Connor G stepped in there after he beat out the one earlier in the inning. Yeah, it's exciting to watch. You know, I've been a Buccos fan. I had a T-shirt in Mighty Mike football with Outfield of Dreams. It had Van Slyke, Bonilla, and Bonds on it.
Caller (from Beaver Falls) 1:40
I was watching in 92 when Sid Green slid in at home. I met Sid Green at a baseball camp a couple years ago and reminded him about that. It's a...
Joe 1:49
Well, you sound like a happy man, and we're happy for you, aren't we, Bob?
Bob 1:53
Yeah. I mean, people want to have stuff like this, and I just hope this whole season, it's a competitive team all the way to the end. I can imagine what it's going to be like in September.
Joe 2:01
Every year of Connor Griffin's career over 500, said that Beaver Falls man. Do you agree with that, Bob?
Bob 2:08
Oh, I mean, that's a long way to look at it, and it depends on other signings and other things they do. But so far, their drafting has been very good in the last several years. And that's the basic fundamental of a team. If you have, and the foundation, if you have those guys keep coming, that'll help you out quite a bit. And it looks like they do have some of those kind of, especially in the pitching department, the most important part of the game is pitching.
Unknown 2:29
Next, let's go to Bob. He's in Baldwin. Bob, say hi to Bob. Hi, Bob. Hey, boys. Thanks for letting me call in. Yeah, I'm kind of walking on air today, Bob. you know, I'm a longtime fan since like I was five years old. Um, so that was 1988. Um, I couldn't help but notice the symbolism that, you know, according to baseball reference, the pirates franchise, which goes back to the 1880s was hovering around 500 all time. Um, and this actually, I think we began the season like right at right exactly at 500. Um, all time. So to be three games over now, it's nice to know that I think it's going to be a very long time, maybe another generation, hopefully, where we never slip below that number again. And seeing Connor Griffin at the press conference with his teammates there, and hearing the owners say urgency, and hearing Connor Griffin say World Series, it just feels like a brand new day.

How does Konnor Griffin's signing impact the Pirates' future?

Unknown 3:29
It feels like a new era, and I couldn't be more excited. It's different. This is very different, and There's a lot of baseball fans in this town who've had to suffer through this, like myself, never having ever witnessed a playoff series win in my entire life. And it feels like we're turning that corner and we're not going back. It's amazing.
Bob 3:49
I don't think there's anything better. I mean, there are a lot of great things in sports. I mean, playoff hockey is awesome. You get to March Madness. Some of the finishes there is awesome.
