The Pomp And Joe Show

Looking back on our preseason Steelers predictions

07 Jan 2026

Chapter 1: What were the preseason predictions for the Steelers?

1.297 - 22.348 Bob

Bob, as I was combing through the archives that we have here, sometimes things can get lost in the archives. I know, especially when you're not here because you have a good management system in place. And we realized that you and Joe's predictions were during a week where I took the most time off I ever have because I was sick. I had two days off. I've never taken two days off sick days ever.

0

22.549 - 26.776 Unknown

I remember that now. That week I did, and that's what I missed. It's hard to take two days off because you were pretty sick.

0

26.916 - 48.211 Bob

Yeah, I missed the – I don't have it in my folder here, the predictions that you guys made. But one thing that was very fascinating was from the day that I did come back When Joe, you and Donnie were at Studio B, and I was trying to rehab my voice, and Joe, as we prepare for Steelers-Texans, said this.

0

48.471 - 57.885 Joe

I'm going to go 9-7-1. They have a tie in Cleveland. When is that game? December 28th. A little Christmas tie, right? We all get ties for Christmas, Donnie.

0

57.905 - 59.768 Limits

A little Christmas cheer for everybody.

59.788 - 84.169 Joe

We all go home happy. So 9-7-1. They make the playoffs, and they get hammered on wild card weekend again. And I'll tell you by who. Everybody says the Texans are this team. Oh, well, if they play the Texans, they could win. The Texans win playoff games, the last I checked. At least one per season. They'll go into Houston, and they'll get railroaded in the wild card round.

84.33 - 93.505 Joe

That's what's going to happen. And if they were going to Houston, I'd stick to it, Bob. But they ain't. Houston's coming here. But I was on to something, wasn't I, Bob? 9-7-1 is not bad.

93.625 - 104.386 Unknown

Yeah, 9-7-1, 10-7 as it turned out. Houston's the opponent. Different location. We'll see if your prediction. We have more evidence since you made that. So are you still sticking to that? Sticking to what?

Chapter 2: How did Joe predict the Steelers would perform against the Texans?

104.446 - 105.487 Unknown

That they're going to get railroaded.

0

105.587 - 111.074 Joe

No, I've said every day here I think they're going to win. And being at home, I think, is a large part of it, even if Hokie doesn't.

0

112.015 - 116.961 Unknown

Here's the other thing. I think it's a large part because they're not used to doing that kind of stuff, especially on that field.

0

117.001 - 138.708 Joe

It's a big deal to get an extra little split second on your pass rush. Things have the other team have to use a silent count. All that stuff is gigantic, I think. I do, too. Now, on the downside of that fabulous prediction, I think Limits and I, with Ray Fittipaldo, did some preseason predictions. And, Bob, I'm going to take this one to my grave. Aren't I, Limits?

0

139.809 - 142.112 Bob

Yeah, this was fascinating.

142.392 - 153.987 Joe

Who would you guess right now? And just know we're going to replay this, Ray. We're going to replay this someday. Who do you think the Steelers are going to draft next year as their franchise quarterback if you had to pick right now?

154.267 - 155.689 Bob

I hope you're seated for this, Bob.

156.682 - 172.039 Unknown

If I had to pick right now, and this is not based off opening week of college football because you got to judge these guys over the course of a season. All right. Just because Mike talks about quarterback mobility so often, I'm going to go Sellers.

173.72 - 184.512 Limits

Donnie? Is this who I want or who I think? Who you think. I think Sellers has a pretty good chance to be the first overall pick or like one of the first two. I'm going to say Garrett Nussmeier.

Chapter 3: Which quarterback is under the most pressure this season?

715.16 - 722.993 Joe

He's a pretty good record. He's 76-40. At least he does win a playoff game once in a while, but he doesn't win enough of them, Bob.

0

722.973 - 740.429 Unknown

Isn't it funny how it changed? Once they made the trade for Micah Parsons, everyone thought that it was Green Bay's conference to win. And it might have been. It might have been. But again, you're judged on what you do and not necessarily the circumstances that surround it. And LeFleur's a really good coach. I would take him in a second.

0

740.469 - 753.561 Joe

Now, if he became available and I was the Bills, I would go grab him in a second. Now, you could say, so you're going to get a coach who can't finish the deal to replace a coach who can't do it either. I know, but I think he's really, really good offensively. I do.

0

753.942 - 766.924 Unknown

Yeah, their defense leaves a lot to be desired, though, without Parsons in there. But you could say that with a lot of defenses that have one excellent talent in the middle who's so responsible for everything else. But, yeah, a lot of pressure on LeFleur.

0

768.747 - 784.773 Joe

Bob, who do you think emerges this weekend as winners? Let's start with the first game. Let's go with just winners, no point spreads. No, no point spreads. I just want to know who's going to win. We can do point spreads tomorrow if you'd like. No, it doesn't matter. I'm just saying.

Chapter 4: What factors contribute to Josh Allen's pressure in the playoffs?

785.254 - 792.782 Joe

By the way, Donnie Football has weighed in. He took great offense to you and Kabaly ripping on him for playing D3 football at Waynesburg.

0

793.003 - 796.387 Bob

And again, it was not me ripping on him. I only just pointed out where Donnie played.

0

797.147 - 800.331 Joe

And he said London Fletcher played D3 football.

0

802.454 - 816.733 Bob

There's a receiver. Oh, who's it for? Is it Jacksonville that has a receiver that went to a D3 school? Maybe it was Mount Union. Somebody has a Mount Union wide receiver. There's been a couple of Mount Union wide receivers in the NFL.

0

816.781 - 825.231 Joe

Bob, did you hear I'm taking out a contingent of young producers here for a steak dinner tomorrow night? No. Yeah. Where are you going? Bruce Chris, downtown.

825.251 - 825.911 Unknown

Nice.

825.931 - 826.552 Joe

You like that, Bob?

826.572 - 830.276 Unknown

A lot of great steak places downtown, yes. And you're doing that just because?

Chapter 5: Who are the other quarterbacks mentioned as under pressure?

830.697 - 851.974 Joe

Because Dom, intern Dom, answered a ridiculous trivia question. I said, if you get this right, I'll take you guys out to a steak dinner. I forget what year it was. Somebody won the MVP, a quarterback. I was trying to look the last time it was a non-quarterback. I don't know, was it 2008? I don't know what it was. And I said, I was looking at the voting that year.

0

852.798 - 858.037 Joe

I said, Dom, if you can tell me who finished second that year. I'll get you this steak dinner.

0

858.458 - 858.918 Unknown

And he did.

0

859.119 - 865.749 Joe

I told him it was a running back. I did tell him that. And he said DeMarco Murray, and he was right.

0

866.029 - 867.331 Unknown

Did he look at a computer?

867.432 - 869.715 Joe

No, I accused him of cheating, but I don't think he did.

869.755 - 873.621 Unknown

It's a costly answer for you.

873.862 - 879.791 Joe

So we're all going out tomorrow night, myself, Donnie Football, intern Dom, and Limits. Are you going to dress up, Limits?

880.372 - 882.495 Bob

I did the last time, so I think I will again.

Thank you, Bob, for your undying well of kindness. I'd like to talk to you about a local roofing company. Oh, come on. You know who it is. It's J.P. Roofing and Siding. It's Joe Patochnik and his mustache. And he's been doing this for over 40 years, and he's been doing it right the whole time. JP Roofing and Siding has earned the Owens Corning Platinum. Bob, can you keep it down over there?

1142.54 - 1145.788 Joe

You're spilling things. I hear coffee cups. What is happening?

1145.808 - 1148.856 Unknown

One noise that was not audible. Not audible.

1149.297 - 1161.388 Joe

It was audible. You're distracting me. I'm trying to be a professional over here. Joe and his team have been doing it, like I said, for 40 years. And only 1% of the dealers have that honor.
