How can honest communication stop relationships from fading?
don't leave people in the dark don't leave people without an idea of what you think of them why you think what you think of them especially if they matter if it's somebody distant okay i get it maybe ghosting or fading them is a little easier but if you have some kind of relationship to them I think they deserve to know. Because think about this. If that were you, would you want to know if you did something wrong? If that were you, would you want to know if you messed something up, even if you didn't mean to? I think a lot of relationships are lost on a lack of communication. You just don't talk it out. You don't find common ground. And I have found that I am somebody that will hold resentment towards people and not even tell them because it feels good.
But then when time passes and I lose contact and I miss out on all the birthdays, all the celebrations, being able to be, you know, an uncle to their kids, it's kind of weird and it kind of sits uncomfortably on my consciousness. I think we're all going to make mistakes. That's just a constant of life. We're all going to have days where we feel like we're in this tunnel vision level of anger when we get yelled at by somebody at a store for filming. You can't film at a store. Are you crazy? But if we can control how we interact with people, we can control the relationships we have in our life. Maybe it's worth a shot. It might not work out the right way. We might think we're going to actually maintain this friendship.
And then you realize, ah, no. But the opposite could be true. You might think that this relationship you have is cooked and it's going down the drain. But in reality, you two are just misunderstanding each other. And you could rebuild something really beautiful. The choice is yours. I'll respect whatever decision you make. I'm trying to be better about having uncomfortable conversations with people. I'm not the best at it, but at least I try. And sometimes that's enough. Someone with a big ego will tell you how good they are. Someone with confidence will show you. It's something that I've had to learn time and time again.
Why should we confront mistakes instead of ghosting people?
I thought that having a big ego was what made somebody a champion. You needed to elevate your level of thinking in order to feel like, yes, you were locked in, you were so good, and nobody would mess with you. But when I started to adopt a big ego, I actually found that that inhibited me from making any kind of progress and also like friends in my life. There's something to be said about being humble, yes, but I also think if you embody who you are and you do that every single day, you build confidence. You have evidence to actually prove that what you do is good. When a lot of people, they just kind of go around and tell you, oh man, yeah, you know, I'm doing this, I'm running this business or whatever.
It's all yap. It's no action. The people in my life that make the most happen, they never talk about what they do because they're too busy doing it. And if you found yourself in this kind of pit of always over-explaining the ideas that you have in your life or the things that you want to get done, well, maybe it's time to... pipe down a little bit, shh, calma, and just exist, and try, and realize that bringing your ideas into life is hard, and you will make mistakes, and you will not be perfect, but what you will build, which is so valuable, and will help you is confidence, because you will make mistakes, you'll fumble, you'll go, you know, it'll happen, but you'll learn, and learning repeatedly is
about who you are and what you're doing. That builds confidence. It's a beautiful thing to get pelted in the face by snow. I got snot running down my face, but I'm still here. Maybe this is what being a human's all about. And they're just walking, enjoying, bro.
At what point can you actually allow somebody finally to be in your life that could bring you something good? Yes, there are bad people and you've probably been hurt by a couple of them. But that doesn't mean it's a bad world. In fact, I think it's a pretty beautiful one.
