What are receptive skills and why is listening essential to the gospel?

Johnny Chang 0:00
Welcome to another episode on the Unlearned Wisdom Podcast with yours truly, Johnny Chang, where each episode is a gospel-centered lesson that you could apply to your life today, tomorrow, and forevermore. Ooh, remix! What's today's episode? Today's episode is episode 45, and we're going to be talking about listening. Wait, what? Listen. So put your listening ears on and receptive skills is what we're going to go over. Why is listening important? It really is important because if you don't hear anything and somebody's spitting bars, like what are you going to, you're not going to catch it. Literally. Literally. So yeah, we're going to go over all of that, guys.
Jeremy 0:46
Listening and receptive skills. I got a quick question. Yes. When you guys put on socks for the day, do you guys have to find a place to sit? Like do you sit on the edge of your bed or do you like stand up?
Johnny Chang 0:56
No, I stand up and I balance. Yeah, me too. Because I'm a man.
Jeremy 1:00
I mean, same here. I was just saying, what was that?
Johnny Chang 1:03
Why did you look at me like that?
Jeremy 1:04
That question is crazy. When you pee, do you sit? No. I have my friend that does that at night. He sits at night. I do sit sometimes.
Aaron 1:13
The question is crazy because it's so specific that I've never even thought about it, which means you probably sit. Because who else thinks of that question?
Jeremy 1:22
No, today I sat because... I tried it for the first time. I tried it for the first time. What's so funny?
Unknown 1:31
Sure, buddy.
Jeremy 1:33
No, today was... Because my closet is far from any sitting place, but today, for some reason... Oh, yeah, your closet is far, for sure. What's so funny?
Unknown 1:43
Explain that. He stepped out the closet.
Jeremy 1:48
Anyways, today I take the socks out, but for some reason I was just feeling tired. So I sat down. It's a much more pleasant experience. So I was like, I understand why people have those little benches in front of their beds.
Johnny Chang 2:02
Oh, the foot lockers? They're called foot lockers? Yeah.
Jeremy 2:04
I'm like, oh, I understand that now. Now I want one. Makes sense. Yeah, really deep conversation. I hope you guys got something out of it.
Aaron 2:12
you're such an old man you're never beating the old man allegations literally bro see now old man dude why do you even put so much thought and time into just putting your freaking socks on I've never spent more than 20 seconds less 10 seconds just putting my socks on what about long socks when you have to like what about long socks like you have to accordion it correct that's exactly what right that's exactly what you do did you guys ever hear the saying the longer the socks the downer the food
Johnny Chang 2:41
It's called sock checking. Shout out to my Mexican friends, but they literally do that. They sock check you.
Jeremy 2:54
It's hilarious. What about when you go like use a locker or like a spa somewhere? You usually sit on the bench. It's such a much more pleasant experience.
Aaron 3:01
When I go to the gym, I'm not touching that bench. I'm not going to lie.
Jeremy 3:04
Same.
Aaron 3:05
I see so much bare bottom on that bench. And a towel. I don't even put my backpack on the bench.
Jeremy 3:12
Really?
Aaron 3:12
While my stuff is hanging in the locker, I get dressed, put my socks and shoes on, and head out. What gym do you go to?
Jeremy 3:19
Gold's Gym. Okay. I understand why you wouldn't put it down there, but I mean, you know, where I go, where I go. Okay. I actually don't have a gym membership.
Oh.
Jeremy 3:30
Okay. Anyways, moving on. Moving on. Oh, wait. I have one more thing. I have one more thing. And I think this would just be... It made me think about the capabilities of a human. There's this kid. I think he's like 19 years old on Instagram. And his Instagram handle is literally at Luke Proof. And what he does is... he will learn a skill in a day. So one of the videos is like, I don't train for marathons, and he runs 50 miles in a day. So basically two marathons. It's insane. He also learns the saxophone in a day, like learning a song in a day, how to do a wheelie on a motorbike in a day, learns the piano, wins a pickleball tournament. He's like, I'm good at ping pong. I've never played pickleball. Learns pickleball, wins a tournament, like just like a local amateur tournament.
Jeremy 4:15
And so... Over and over and over, he's just doing these things where he's just locked in for a day.
