Welcome to another episode on the Unlearned Wisdom Podcast with yours truly, Johnny Chang. And in today's episode, we're actually going to be talking about why loneliness drives us crazy and how protecting your space can slowly turn into isolation. Why being connected doesn't make us necessarily feel close. And towards the end, I'm going to show you guys how to be at peace even when you're alone.
Is there a story of maybe somebody that you've mentored that dealt with loneliness?
I think we all deal with loneliness, but like The only thing that I've noticed is my my thoughts amplify at nighttime. Whenever I was lonely, I was super, super like my thoughts were like microphone to my brain type of thing. It was so loud. I couldn't stop my thoughts. So I learned actually like I discovered this when I was locked up. That most of my thoughts were really, really loud, especially at nighttime. And you have time to like think and there's no like distraction and there's no, it's all just reflection. And I learned that most of the time people think that they're thinking, but they're actually listening. Listening to who? Listening to the enemy. No, they're listening to, yeah, genuinely the enemy or like those demonic things because you guys ever be driving and then like you think crazy stuff like, what if I just slammed on the brake right now or like rammed my car into the wall or like something crazy like that.
And it's like, why would you think of something like that, right?
Why is it that like everybody when they're young, adolescent, or at least a lot of people I know have had suicidal thoughts as kids? Yeah. Have you ever thought of like, if I died, you know, my parents wouldn't miss me. Probably I'll show them.
Why do kids and adolescents experience suicidal thoughts?
You ever had that thought?
Yeah.
Yeah. As of I and I've had it at a young age. Yeah. And we've all had different like your situation. It's like, of course, you might would have those thoughts, but it's like mine wasn't as bad as yours and yours probably wasn't as bad as mine.
Because that's the end result of Satan. He wants to drag us to death. And if you're not saved and you die in your sins, then where do you go? The fiery lake of fire, they say, right? So I think he just does that to everybody.
Why do little kids think it though? Like, why do we think of that as kids is the first thing to like pay back?
Because he wants to get you when you're young. legit like think about it right when he tried to like get rid of moses what did he do he did a decree with pharaoh and it was like all the male children get tossed in the in the nile river there are babies when jesus was a baby king herod was like oh slay all the jewish kids all the Jewish babies that are boys, you know? And so, Satan always tries to get us young. I mean, it only makes sense because you're literally like malleable, right? You're like, they could mold you. You're easily influenced. You're easily persuaded. And so, Satan would try to mold you. So, yeah, it makes sense.
I just wonder why kids have that thought.
You know what I'm saying? I just answered you. You sound like somebody. I'm just kidding.
No, but I'm saying like... Like no one was like, yo, the payback to your parents is by killing yourself.
Yeah.
And I wasn't why I was too young.
Do you know why? Because you knew that deep down they cared about you. And like the only way to rebel, it was to be like, all right, I'm just going to like do something to myself horrendously. Like even though my parents like would like didn't like me, but I knew like, man, they're like bluffing. There's no way because you're just taught in the world that parents love their children. It's just how it is. Even if they're like the worst parents, like my dad would still try to be like a good parent in whichever ways he could. And I'm like, I'll show him. You know, it's like you just want to win at the end of the day. I think that has to do more with like protecting yourself and regaining control. Because as a kid, you're literally stripped of your control.
You're told where to sleep, what to wear, what to eat, what to do.
