I'm Jordan Coon.

Why does Will Critchlow say the biggest shock about LLMs is that they actually work?

Jordan Cooney 0:46
And joining me is Will Critchlow, CEO at SearchPilot. Search Pilot is the leading SEO A B testing platform for enterprise sites. And they just launched the industry's first GEO testing system, purpose built for AI search. You know, you've been in this industry for for two decades now, and you've seen a lot of things that that have changed. Um, what's the most shocking thing that you've seen as it pertains to LLM and ranking content?
Will Critchlow 1:17
I'm gonna actually just say the the most shocking thing is that it works at all. Um I have uh my background, my academic background was in um math and statistics and I studied neural networks before they were cool. Um when they didn't work famously. Yeah. They famously were a dead end.

How did early neural networks evolve into the powerful LLMs we see today?

Will Critchlow 1:36
And then it was only when you threw like billions and billions and billions of uh you know data points and CPUs and GPUs and all this other stuff that suddenly suddenly Only gradient descent worked. So I I'm just mind blown that we're we're getting anything that resembles intelligence out of uh out of this nonsense.

Time for a one-minute break to hear from our sponsor, Previsible. So you're looking for SEO help, then you got a couple of options. You could start replying to spam from agencies that claim they can get you to rank number one on Google. You can pay an hourly rate for a consultant who will inevitably nickel and dime you with hourly charges, or you can work with a cookie cutter agency to quickly launch a strategy-less project with low success rate. None of those sound very good. Now do they? Well, that's where Previsible's integrated consulting model comes in.

What does the sponsor Previsible recommend for SEO teams in an AI‑driven world?

Unknown 2:26
Previsible draws from a collective 40 years of SEO and digital marketing experience to unlock your organic growth opportunities. They build custom solutions that combine strategy, technical expertise, content, and reporting to effectively operationalize SEO for your business. Previsible's four-stage approach ensures that your SEO programs thrive. By starting off with a strategy first approach. Then they support you in your efforts to create quality content, help you identify technical issues, and most importantly, they'll work with your cross-functional teams to integrate your SEO strategies to make sure that your SEO budget actually drives results, not just your agency's bottom line. So join brands like Yelp, eBay, Canva, Atlassian, Square, all who rely on the SEO consultant.

And do you think that these uh more maybe more more eloquently said, these LLM responses, not necessarily rankings, um, do you think that these LLM responses are gonna become more um opinionated, more broad sweeping, or are they gonna become more and more narrow focused and more and more specific in their nature over over time?

Will LLM responses become more opinionated or more focused like traditional search results?

Will Critchlow 3:48
I'm gonna take a specific version of that question, which is around product. s right, when you're looking for a thing to buy. Yeah. Yeah. I think in that specific Ніж Actually we're gonna see them look more like search results. I think we're gonna see more links. I think we're gonna see more uh you know, read more about and those links maybe to sub conversations or uh you know, expanded information.

How can marketers apply testing‑first methodologies to prove SEO value with AI?

Will Critchlow 4:16
But I think that as humans, when we're researching particularly big ticket purchases or uh things that are important to us, we're gonna want that information ourselves. And what these things are going to provide us is a fast route to those to that information and summarizing and and so forth rather than uh rather than abstracting that all the way and saying, Hey, I bought you one.
