Thank you so much. Happy to be here.

So I'm super pumped because I've actually kind of had a little bit of a sneak peek into some of the things that you're going to be sharing in our episode today. And I know that you've been at a lot of different conferences, a lot of different events, sharing a lot of the same message. And foundationally, I think it's so critical that as SEOs, as content marketers, and even as marketing leaders and executives, we truly understand where Google starts, right? Google starts. With crawling and indexation, with data about what's on a web page before anything else. And I don't think we think about that enough. And it's changed a lot in the recent uh year or two. And I think it's really start it's time for us to start rethinking our expectations around crawling and indexing.
Jordan Cooney 2:13
But before we get into that, maybe you can give our listeners a little bit of background, a little bit of background on yourself, how you got into this whole SEO world in space, and then maybe we can get into some of the more details in terms of where we're at with crawling indexing.
Cindy Krum 2:28
Yeah, absolutely. So I started doing SEO in about uh two thousand three and it was when I was working for a small web development shop building crappy web pages and front page, if anyone remembers the Microsoft website builder software. We used tables and they were great. And uh but we had problems with things ranking. So I was tasked with figuring out uh how to get all the websites we were building to rank and that's how I discovered SEO. It was in the very early days of the industry. Lots of things were driven by newsletters and lots of people were both SEO and PPC practitioners. That's obviously changed. Now you specialize in one or the other usually, but at the time people did both. So yeah, it was early days and then I started focusing on mobile SEO um the first time I got a fancy cell phone, the first time I could really afford one.
Cindy Krum 3:21
And I did some searches and I was like, these are bad results. And I don't have the power to change Google, but I can help, you know, developers do a better job at building websites that Google can understand and rank better for mobile. You know, lots has changed with mobile since then at the time. It was even like a separate index, basically. But that's how I got into it is I kind of just said, hey, this seems important and no one's talking about it. Maybe I can figure it out and talk about it. And that's how I ended up up focusing on mobile. And since then mobile has has changed many times over, um, in including like what's the best strategy and what's the best recommendation for developing and and getting found and and used on mobile devices, but ultimately the the game is the same, right?

You want exposure, you want good brand awareness and you want, you know, people to find all the deep content on your site and engage with it effectively, right?
