into kind of like the the lightning round here. And so I'm gonna throw kind of five different you know, you know, shorter form questions at you that are gonna have its own kind of theme too. And the first one is gonna be crystal ball.
How will retail search behavior shift over the next 18 months as AI assistants rise?
So you're looking out into the future and how you're seeing the world. And so the question is, how will retail search behavior shift over the next eighteen months as AI shopping assistants gain traction and popularity?
Well, that's a good question. Um, I don't know if this is what I would use that crystal ball for. I think I would be But yeah, but okay, in that constraint. Um what I'm talking to to leaders at companies about right now is Black Friday, because it's it's top of mind. And my point is this is the last Black Friday.
Why is this Black Friday considered the last traditional shopping season?
that AI search won't dominate, that agentic search won't dominate. This is the last one. This is the last traditional Black Friday that you're going to have. It will be influenced by AI. It's not like ChatGPT is going to play no impact on this. But but let's be realistic. What is the impact? Five percent? 10%? Twelve percent you know, no one's going it's gonna impact forty two percent unless you're in a very specific industry and it's But it's not there yet. 18 months from now, you know, next Black Friday, oh hell yeah. Like it is it is coming like a freight train. And the the the user adoption, they are shifting and changing interfaces. They're changing interfaces at at an exponential curve and it's happening at a global pace.
So yes, I mean, like I said, if if yesterday they're in installing one click checkout. you know, for your Etsy purchase and they're about to onboard Shopify. This is it. This is the last traditional moment.
In what ways will AI become the primary customer for retailers?
And we're going to see, like I said, the rise of AI itself being your customer. 18 months from now, your customer will be AI. That will be your customer. And so you need to stop like tomorrow, stop thinking about AI as a technology to trick or influence or like we do this and we can like make it do that and no like would you do that with your customer? That's not a good long-term game. Like go back to the basics. What is the AI like where does it get its facts? Where does it make its decisions? Like how can we rightfully and properly nurture this relationship, influence it? Like think of it that way because in 18 months it will be everyone's dominant. Customer.
I like that you called out Black Friday too in that because I think even though and I agree with you that it's like we'll see an impact this year, but it's like come next next year, Black Friday, it's like, yeah, I would expect the entire consumer experience to be quite a bit different. But I do think that there's that opportunity right now for those brands and those companies that can move quicker. And a lot of times these big brands, you know, it's like
What are “speedboat” initiatives and why should brands act fast?
changing the direction of like a cruise ship where it takes a little bit more time, you're having to get more people on board. So it's like if you are able to move quickly and mobilize, like you actually do have an opportunity to get that inside lane. And so as much as you can, especially if you're the up and comer in your category or space, try to use this as that opportunity to get the head start on it.
Hundred percent. If you're if you're a crew if you're a cruise ship, launch speed boats. If you're a speed boat, keep trucking. Right.
Absolutely. Well, with that, that's gonna wrap up this episode of the Voice of Search podcast.
