Patrick, welcome to the podcast.
Hi Tyson, thanks for having me.
Nice. So we're jumping into JavaScript. We were chatting a little bit before we hit record here. I understand that you guys have recently completed um a new study. So maybe just to level set, set some context with the listeners, what was this study? What were you looking for? What was kind of the methodology?
Yeah, sure. So we've we've launched the study now. You can find it on our website. The JavaScript SEO twenty twenty four report is the name of the study. And uh it all came about really from um it I suppose it sort of evolved organically as these things often do, from a a feature request we had from uh Alaida Solis. She wanted us to improve some of the sort of uh features we have within our software To help understand the difference between the response and rendered effects of JavaScript essentially when when crawling websites. So we did a whole bunch of work at the end of uh last year in twenty twenty three. And um in the new year, we kind of thought, right, we need to sort of follow up on this. How do we promote it a little bit?
And so we decided to do a webinar. And so we did a webinar alongside Leda uh with another couple of SEOs, Sam Torres from Grey Dot Company and from Arnett Hellemans, uh, both of whom big SiteBob users, but also big sort of um JavaScript fans, I suppose, and a l uh, you know, very vocal in the industry about uh learning about JavaScript SEO. And so we we put this web webinar out there and expecting to maybe have sort of fifty people sign up and we had well over five hundred and we've sort of taken back a little bit by this. thinking, okay, this is something that people are interested in, something that maybe there's, you know, uh a bit of a gap perhaps in terms of of what people are how people understand this thing.
So we decided to do a study and the study was kind of formed of two parts. One was a survey where we went out to as many SEOs as we could round up, I suppose, to fill in this this survey, where we asked a bunch of questions about how they felt they understood uh JavaScript SEO and how to investigate it and how to audit it. And we also paired that with data that we've collected through uh the software itself, through you know, essentially what choices people make when they choose to use the software and do do they choose to crawl and render JavaScript or do they choose not to? And so that was like how the study was born and how we went about uh putting it together.
What was the time period that you like when when were you collecting the feedback from the survey? So just like I know it's recently was published, um, and we'll have a link in the show notes as well for the listeners to go to. But what was the kind of collection period or when were you collecting?
So we were collecting reasonably straightforward after the um webinar went live.
