Lily, welcome to the Voices Search podcast.
Hi, thanks for having me.
I'm super excited to be recording with you today. Um obviously uh we got to spend some time together at at an event recently and um I got to see some of the insights that you shared with us there. But uh obviously Just giving some context to our conversations today, there's just been so much change. I mean, even since we've left the event that happened a few months ago, uh Google's had a huge shakeup in leadership on both the paid and the organic side. We've seen some recent Google updates on how they're uh classifying or defining carousels. We continue to see headway from, you know, competitors like OpenAI and others to try to take market share from Google. So like the the pressure is on, right? Like the the Google pressure is genuinely on and change is just inevitably going to be part of an ecosystem that is under this kind of
duress or or transition. So um Lily, I'd love to just, you know, maybe start by getting you to introduce yourself to to our audience, share a little bit about this topic, and maybe some thoughts on the current state of search.
Sure thing, yeah. So um you mentioned my title before. I'm VP of SEO Strategy and Research. So I oversee an SEO team at an agency called AMSiv. Uh we are about 30 plus people on the SEO team. I've been doing SEO for almost 15 years and working on the agency side for somewhere between 12 and 13 years. So seen a lot of different types of clients in my time doing SEO. I've seen a lot of different uh I mean almost every possible SEO. SEO challenge or experience, you know, working at agencies for so many years, you kind of see it all. And definitely to your point, it's been a it's been a lot of big chang a lot of big changes happening really fast in the last year and some really big fundamental shifts in how we approach SEO and even just down to how the search results look and feel now compared to a year ago.
Obviously it's very different. So I think You know, uh the SEO industry is frantically trying to figure out what's going on in a in an environment where everything's changing every day. So it's a pretty intense time to be in the space.
No question. I mean, incredibly intense time.
Who is Lily Ray and what is her role at Amsive?
I think for for a lot of the SEOs that are either listening to this podcast or or or folks in the industry, there's a lot of questions about how is this gonna impact me? And and I always feel like A lot of businesses, a lot of SEOs, either agency or in-house side, are incredibly focused on the the individual website impact. But we don't spend enough time talking about the bigger macro consumer impacts. And and I brought up earlier the recent Google uh executives that have been transitioned into out or into new roles. And part of the messaging, the PR messaging behind that was how is Google going to make this user experience better?
