Hi, hi everybody, how are you? Thanks for inviting me.
Absolutely. Uh thrilled to have you on the show. Partly for a coup couple of reasons. We're we're gonna record here, both in English and in Spanish, which is super exciting for our SEO community. And i for all of you who who want to listen to this episode in Spanish, please go ahead and just jump to the next day and you'll get a version of this in Spanish. But also, candidly speaking, we don't get a lot of folks in the news space. So Clara, why don't you tell us a little bit about your role at El Nacional as well as kind of your your background in the SEO space?
Well uh it will be a great experiment to record this podcast in English and in Spanish. Well now I am at the director of SEO and Product at Al Nacional that is a Spanish publisher based in Barcelona. I am also a CO for news publisher consultant.
How did Clara Soteras transition from journalism to a SEO leadership role?
and I work as an associate professor at Autonomous University of Barcelona with journalism and communication studies.
Awesome. And tell me a little bit about just kinda your how you got into SEO and where you're kind of going with SEO as well. Like what's what's next for you uh now that you've had this career so far in journalism and news SEO?
Well I start my career as a journalist in a local television So I discover SEO writing articles and news in a digital in the digital website, no, the digital part of the broadcast television. And I discover it with different uh types of approaches and I really like to optimize content to achieve the the users to perform well.
Absolutely. And in your experience uh working as a journalist, right? Because this is this is pretty unique that you you've had the opportunity to work In the field that you are now doing SEO Learning the fundamentals of good journalism, right? The good writing, the practice of writing. Has that made a big difference in how you approach SEO?
I think that we have to write uh well. It's not only a thing uh for users, but Google really loves good articles to make perform well, no? But I think that it's interesting and important to offer good experience for the users. and this type of public service to serve as information, local information and different type of documentation and contextual information to improve the the user experience.
Absolutely. And you know, now today, being an SEO in the new space, there's probably many different challenges that you are working on to help your news outlet gain more traffic. There are components such as like education to other journalists, you know, and teaching them some of these best practices, practices that you probably did as a journalist yourself. Then there's also technical efforts, right? And news in and of itself is kind of its own category, let's just say.
Why does training newsroom staff come first in a news SEO strategy?
There's many technical things that you can just do in the news space. Mm-hmm. My question is, how do you prioritize?
