What is Dave’s walking formula and how does it set the tone for today’s walk?

Dave Paul 0:03
One of my favorite walking combinations happening in real time today. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily 10-minute podcast designed to provide you with a little added motivation to get out the door, take the walk, and more importantly, to keep going, to build a lifelasting, life-changing walking habit. Today's 10-minute walk gets started right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes. The ST6, these are minimal shoes. Wide toe box, all the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need, minimal shoes, maximal cushion.

They've got road shoes, trail shoes. Recovery shoes, race shoes. Alright, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking. And very light. Very light. Let's pull the inserts out, try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, Topoathletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. Alright, leaving the back porch. Walking in and yeah, this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm gonna be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly.

Why does Dave choose the Topo Athletic ST6 shoes and what benefits do they offer?

Dave Paul 1:40
In the meantime, check them out, Topo Athletic, T-O-P-O, Topoathletic.com. Day twenty-six of the thirty day walking challenge. Welcome. Thanks for joining me. Today one of my Favorite combinations. Formulas. For walking fun is going to be happening in real time. Here's the formula. Quite simply, curiosity plus adventure equals fun. Curiosity is fairly self-explanatory. I'm a pretty curious guy, and usually it starts with the two words I wonder and then fill in the blank. The adventure is answering the curiosity, finding the answer. And it could be as simple as doing some research. Curiosity satisfied to some degree, that is fun. But even more fun is when the adventure involves walking. as it does today. Got back to Myrtle Beach yesterday after a few days in Williamsburg, and there was some concerning news about some brush fires in the area.
Dave Paul 2:57
It has been hot here in Myrtle Beach. It has been dry-ish, not bone dry. We've had some rain, had some rain last week, but big picture cumulatively this month, the month of June, hasn't been a very wet, rainy month. So dry ish. And I didn't know this until last year, but apparently South Carolina. Is prone to wildfires. In fact, a lot of wildfires. Last year there was a wildfire that made national headlines that was maybe five, ten miles from where we live. So last night, arrived home to news that there had been some brush fires that had started and were quickly. Extinguished? In our community And these weren't fires that were five or ten miles away from where we lived, but actually within a mile or so. Concerning news, but not worrisome.
Dave Paul 3:58
Anyhow, last night Ava and I were taking a walk and we hear a siren, not uncommon, and we saw the vehicle wasn't a fire truck, but it was the smaller fire department pickup truck. And it turned onto a walking path, which Ave and I had never seen happen before. Turns out there is a fire in a grove of trees, a strand of trees about a half mile from where we live. Last night I actually heard one of the firefighters talking to someone who was who was watching saying, there's nothing to worry about. It's fully contained. We've got a trench dug around the area where the fire is. So that was last night. This morning. I'm curious, is that area still smoldering? Is the fire still burning? Is it still smoky? I have a couple of friends, good buddies, who are from Maryland that live now here in Myrtle Beach.
Dave Paul 5:01
Both were volunteer firefighters. And so I'm going to, next time I see them, talk about the science, the fire science behind what the department is doing. The curiosity is: I wonder if it's still smoldering.
