If you're going to be moving at some point in the future, some things to think about. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily 10-minute podcast designed to provide you with a little added motivation and encouragement to get out and take a walk every single day, or at least consistently. Today's 10-minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes, the ST6. These are minimal shoes, wide toe box. All the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This is part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need.
Minimal shoes, maximal cushion. They've got road shoes, trail shoes, recovery shoes, race shoes. All right, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking. And very light. Very light. Let's pull the inserts out. Try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, topoathletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. All right, leaving the back porch. Walking in and yeah, this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm going to be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly. In the meantime, check them out.

The days are longer, the calendar is filling up, and I want to feel as good as this beautiful summer weather. That's why I've been loving Groons. It's one daily pack of gummies that covers my greens, vitamins, and minerals, and even has six grams of prebiotic fiber. So I don't need to juggle a complicated wellness routine on top of everything else. They taste amazing. They're easy to toss in my bag on the go. Plus they're vegan, gluten-free and HSA FSA eligible for reimbursement. Save up to 52% off with promo code podcast at grooms.co that's code podcast at G R U N S dot C O.
I think today's walk is going to be extra buggy. I'm walking through the wooded trail. Lots of trees on both sides. It is mid-morning as I'm walking. It's already a hot day here in Myrtle Beach. And I want a little bit of shade. So I'm navigating through the wooded trail and the bugs are in full course. So I think that is going to be the soundtrack for today's episode. So if you've been listening to this podcast for a while, you know that we live in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. And I've actually been specific that we live in the Market Common District of Myrtle Beach, which is right near the Myrtle Beach International Airport. Yesterday had that F-16 that did a touch and go just as I was getting ready to actually just as I was starting the podcast.
And that's cool. I don't think my wife finds it nearly as cool as I do, but that's one of the benefits of living here. But the real benefit of living where we live is how easy it is to get out and walk or run or cycle.
Why does Dave start the episode with a quick shoe unboxing and why does it matter?
The community is a fairly newish community. It used to be the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. The base was closed down. They redeveloped the area. So it is a community that is specifically planned with outdoor activities in mind. And Ava and I have taken full advantage of that now. before we moved down here. We both had what I would call very strong fitness activity habits. For me, it's walking. For Ava, it's running and walking. And so this area was incredibly appealing to us in that regard. It was the biggest reason we moved here. But we've had some friends who have also moved into this area, the Market Common, within the past five years. And it's been interesting watching the impact of fitness opportunity on them.
Now, it's two couples. One is actually a personal trainer. So she also had a robust fitness commitment before moving down here. And they were actually looking at a different neighborhood about 35, maybe 40 minutes north of us. which had a lot of appeal to them for certain aspects.
