How can a serious commitment to walking transform your life?

Dave Paul 0:03
I want to talk about the impact that a serious commitment to walking can have on you. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking Is Fitness, a daily ten minute podcast designed to provide you with a little added motivation and encouragement to get out, take the walk, and more importantly to keep going, to build a life-changing walking habit. Today's 10-minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes. The ST6, these are minimal shoes. Wide toe box, all the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need, minimal shoes, maximal cushion.

They've got road shoes, trail shoes. recovery shoes, race shoes. Alright, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking. and very light, very light. Pull the inserts out, try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, TopoAthletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. Alright, leaving the back porch. Walking in and yeah this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm gonna be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly. In the meantime, check them out, Topo Athletic, T-O-P-O, Topoathletic.com.

The days are longer, the calendar is filling up, and I want to feel as good as this beautiful summer weather.

Why does the wide toe box in Topo Athletic shoes matter for walkers?

Unknown 1:54
That's why I've been loving Groons. It's one daily pack of gummies that covers my greens, vitamins, and minerals, and even has six grams of prebiotic fiber. So I don't need to juggle a complicated wellness routine on top of everything else. They taste amazing. They're easy to toss in my Bag on the go plus their vegan gluten-free and hsa fsa eligible for reimbursement. Save up to fifty-two percent off with promo code podcast at groons.co. That's code podcast at gruns.co.

You probably can't tell, but today's walk is going to be at a slightly slower pace. And I'm hugging the tree line to stay in the shade. It is early in the morning here in Myrtle Beach, already 83 degrees. The humidity though makes it feel like 96. And later this afternoon we're expecting a heat index of one. We've been in a long heat wave here in Myrtle Beach. I don't talk about it much because I remember the words of my grandfather decades ago. He lived in a big house that had no air conditioning. One summer day I was visiting him. He was out working in the yard. It was a hot day and I was probably, I don't know, whining to some degree about the heat. Or may maybe maybe I wasn't whining about it. Maybe I was asking him out of concern for my grandfather.
Dave Paul 3:34
So how are you handling the heat? And he said, I don't even pay attention to it. I don't look at the forecast. I don't want to know what the temperature is. So if I'm not thinking about it, I don't feel it. But okay. So in that spirit I haven't been talking too much about the heat. Regina writes, Hi Dave, thank you for motivating me to do the June 30-day walking challenge. I didn't miss one day during the whole month. And for me, this is a huge accomplishment. Because I don't consider myself to be a walker. But when I ran across your YouTube video challenge, I thought to myself, surely, you can walk ten minutes a day. And I did it. I have trouble sticking with things, but this challenge was very manageable to me.

I thank you for making it interesting and kind of fun. I enjoyed coloring in the footprint each day with a different colored pencil or marker. Posting the fitness chain on my refrigerator helped me as well. I just wanted to say thank you, and I'm taking the challenge, I'm doing the challenge again in July. God bless Regina. Fatima from Edinburgh Today is my 90th day of walking with your podcast. And I've attached an image of my 90-day fitness chain for you. It's quite colorful.
