What is the powerful accountability hack for staying consistent with daily walks?
I want to talk about a powerful accountability hack that can help you stay consistent. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily 10 minute podcast designed to provide you with a little added motivation, encouragement to get out, take the walk and to keep going. Today's 10 minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes, the ST6. These are minimal shoes, wide toe box. All the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This is part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need, minimal shoes, maximal cushion.
They've got road shoes, trail shoes, recovery shoes, race shoes. All right, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking.
How does the new Topo Athletic ST6 shoe’s wide toe box affect my walking experience?
And very light. Very light. Let's pull the inserts out. Try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, topoathletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. All right, leaving the back porch. Walking in. And this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm going to be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly. In the meantime, check them out.
Why is the lingering smoke from the nearby fire relevant to my walking routine?
Topo Athletic, T-O-P-O, topoathletic.com. Day 27 of the 30-day walking challenge. If you listened to yesterday's episode and you're wondering, is the fire still smoldering? Literally, as I was asking that question, I got the answer. I'm walking on this paved trail that is across a stream from a field and the grove of trees where this fire was smoldering yesterday and the day before, and it just came into view. I was prepared to tell you that it is done because Abe and I last night walked on this trail. and there was no smoke coming from the grove of trees and there is once again this morning and it's interesting i left the house and i could smell smoke there was a hint of smoke in in the air obviously it depends on which way the wind blows but yeah there is smoke coming from the trees
It's in a different location, so I am beginning to wonder if what the firefighters did was actually trench out this whole area. I don't know. I can't see, but clearly they're not concerned because there are no firefighters over there, no fire equipment, and smoke continues to come from the trees. so before i get into today's episode i want to invite you because we're getting close to the end of the 30-day walking challenge i want to know if you did the challenge what's been the biggest victory for you the biggest win for you in doing the challenge And I understand the human tendency to think about what didn't go well. I had hoped to do this, but I only did this. And we focus on the gap between what we had hoped or expected and reality.
I'd like to reframe that.
What’s the biggest win listeners have had during the 30‑day walking challenge?
Even if there's a gap between what you had hoped and what you actually did, I want to know what's the biggest win. Would you send me an email? My email address is dave at walkingisfitness.com. You don't have to remember that. I've got that in the show notes. Now, unfortunately, you can't tap that and up pops an email form, but you can copy that and paste it in an email form. Dave at walkingisfitness.com. Doesn't have to be a long email. Just share with me. Tell me what the biggest win for you has been doing this 30-day walking challenge. This listener writes, I'm doing the 30 day challenge to walk 10 minutes a day. I already had a goal to take a walk every day, partly because of your channel. That would be the YouTube channel.
But some days it just didn't happen. This challenge has helped me avoid a couple of those just didn't happen days.
How can a written contract and daily reminder boost walking habit consistency?
At the end of one day, I realized I hadn't taken my walk yet. So even though it was almost 9 p.m., I headed out the door. And yesterday, I was on the couch watching YouTube and nearly falling asleep.
