John Adams, who would be the country's first vice president and second president, wrote
The day will be the most memorable in the history of America. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade. With shows, games, sports, guns, bells, and Bonfires and illuminations. From one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forevermore. Illuminations, fireworks. John Adams wrote this in seventeen seventy-six.
Why does the host discuss the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence?
It was almost prophetic. Except he got the date wrong. John Adams was convinced that the day that would be the most memorable In the history of the country? Would be July second. That was the day that Congress approved. independence, declaring independence from Great Britain. But it was july fourth that the final language of the Declaration of Independence was approved and it was read in public. That was the day that the public remembered and that the fireworks are happening. John Adams was so convinced that that july second should be the most memorable day that for the rest of his life he turned down invitations to appear at events held on july fourth. Ironically John Adams died. On july fourth, eighteen twenty six,
The fiftieth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. So today is not only the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the United States of America, it is also the two hundredth anniversary of the death of John Adams. And I don't know what your plans are for today. Ave and I are most likely gonna go to the beach.
How does extreme heat affect motivation to walk and what can you do about it?
We live here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We'll probably take dinner. As the sun sets, we will enjoy fireworks, except candidly, the fireworks that we will be enjoying aren't the official kind because they start for us kind of late. These will be more freelance fireworks, up and down the beach. It's actually kind of fun. It's also going to be really, really hot today. The heat index in probably just a few Few hours is going to reach 107. And I know we're not alone. There are a lot of people who are enduring really hot weather right now. Perhaps you. And perhaps this heat wave, this heat dome is draining your motivation. To to walk? Because it's uncomfortable. It's potentially dangerous. And right now this is a a struggle.
And you might even have done the 30 day walking challenge and celebrated because you were more consistent than you've been in a long time or maybe even ever ever. But right now it's a a struggle because of the heat. Walking inside is always an option.
