Why did Dave decide to switch to a new step tracker?
A big change, huge change in my walking journey. I'll tell you what's going on in just a moment. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking as Fitness, a daily 10-minute podcast designed to provide you with added motivation and encouragement to get out, take the walk, and more importantly, to build a life-changing walking habit. Today's 10-minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes. The ST6, these are minimal shoes. Wide toe box, all the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need, minimal shoes, maximal cushion.
They've got road shoes, trail shoes. recovery shoes, race shoes. Alright, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking. And very light. Very light. Let's pull the inserts out, try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking Is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, Topoathletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. All right, leaving the back porch. Walking in and yeah, this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm gonna be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly. In the meantime, check them out, Topo Athletic, T-O-P-O, Topoathletic.com.
January second, twenty thirteen was one of those days in my history. That was literally А гейм чар. And a life changer. That's when I got my first Fitbit. It was a little Fitbit zip. You could clip it to your belt or the way I did it, I just stuck it in my pocket. And for the first time in my life, I was now counting my steps. And it changed everything. Once I had a daily step count, it allowed me to set step goals. It was throwing gas on my fitness fire, which was already burning, but it got super hot after I got that first Fitbit. Over the years I changed the Fitbit, went from the little zip to the Fitbit flex that was a wearable on my wrist. I'm not someone who has worn watches, don't like wearing watches, so that was kind of a big deal for me.
But it had a slim design, it didn't have the typical smart watch face. In fact, really all it had were were lights that came on, little little dots to indicate How far you were on this journey of reaching your step goal. I went from the Flex to the Fitbit Blaze, that was their smart watch. From there I went to the Fitbit Inspire that had a smaller, smaller watch face. I loved the Fitbit Inspire. I loved all the Fitbit products that I've used. The Inspire, though, was my favorite Fitbit. That was the one that I used. through my 20k one-year step challenge, 20,000 steps every day for a year. So I've had a Fitbit from 2013 up through 2024. So 11 years. Loved Fitbit. And when I started the blog and then the podcast, my hope
What features of the Topo Athletic ST6 shoes impressed Dave during the unboxing?
was that Fitbit would be a sponsor, even sorta kinda reached out to them. It never happened. You know, that uh small potatoes, they had bigger fish to fry. And then in twenty twenty four, AmazeFit came along and offered to sponsor the podcast. And I thought, sure, why not? So I switched from the Fitbit to the AmazeFit. And I love the amaze fit. Love the way it looked. Love the way it functioned. Things changed a week ago. And now I'm on to iteration number three. with step trackers. And this one is one that probably saw coming, but just needed the right push. I've been really intrigued with the Apple Watch. And I really liked how much health data there was, the health metrics, the health data in the Apple Watch.
But for whatever reason, I still hadn't been convinced enough to make the leap and dive into the Apple Watch ecosystem. Although I love the Apple ecosystem. I've got two Apple computers, one that is just kind of my regular personal. Computer. I've got another Apple computer that is my production computer for the podcast. When the iPad came out, I forget what year that was, I was like, oh, I've got to have one of those.
