What happened when Ava slipped and broke her toe, and how did it affect her training?
and then share three insights, recommendations, should you find yourself sidelined from walking. So here's the story. It's been about three weeks ago. My wife Ava was in the living room. She was watching TV. End of the day, she was sitting on the sofa and went to reposition herself. Basically she wanted to scoot back on the sofa, and she planted her bare feet, the heels of her bare feet, on the floor. We have a hard wood floor. Basically that was to allow her to push herself back. except things didn't quite go as planned. For whatever reason her foot slipped, so instead of her body moving backwards, her leg and her foot moved forward right into the coffee table. She banged up her middle toe pretty good. And a couple of weeks earlier I had done a similar thing, different circumstances, but I banged my foot into bare feet and was walking through the house, banged my foot into the moulding, and it i in my case it was my pinky toe.
And it was really painful. Usually it just kind of wears off after, you know, a few minutes, maybe an hour or two, but this one did not. Same for Ava. So the next day she went walking and it was sore but it was a manageable kind of sore. And she even took a test run because my wife is a runner. If you've been listening to this podcast for any length of time, you know that. If you're new to walking as fitness, hi, glad to have you. My wife loves running. She walks a lot, but sh her her passion is running. And she was going to be taking a long run on the following morning. And she just wanted to make sure that her foot was okay, that her toe was okay. And so she took a test run. Little sore, but it was like okay, you know, we can do this.
And then the following morning She went out for her run. Again, she's already tested it. And she got about a mile into the run, things were going well. And then that toe, the pain exploded. Not her word, my word. It was it wasn't the kind of thing that just gradually ramped up. It was one step fine, one step not so fine. She hobbled back to the house. I said, Why didn't you call? Would've come and got you. Later that day, decided to go get an X-ray, see what was going on. At first, the PA said, Everything looks okay, so it's probably a deep bruise.
