Who is hosting and what is the purpose of the Walking Is Fitness podcast?

Dave Paul 0:03
I want you to meet two people who are inspiring me right now. Hi I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking Is Fitness, a daily ten minute podcast designed to provide you with added motivation and encouragement to get out and take the walk. Today's ten minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes. The ST6, these are minimal shoes. Wide toe box, all the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need, minimal shoes, maximal cushion. They've got road shoes, trail shoes.

Recovery shoes, race shoes. Alright, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking. And very light. Very light. Let's pull the inserts out, try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly.

What are the key features of the new Topo Athletic ST6 shoes and why do they matter for walkers?

Dave Paul 1:08
By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, TopoAthletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. All right, leaving the back porch. Walking in and yeah, this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm gonna be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly. In the meantime, check them out, Topo Athletic, T-O-P-O, Topoathletic.com.

Ilmainen kokeilu shopifi.com-sivustolla.

These are two people that I don't know personally, have not met them personally. have met them through the media because they're doing things that are amazing. and they've grabbed the attention of people in their community as well as people who work in the media and their stories are interesting enough that they're getting some they're getting some press, as we used to say. First guy is named Ray. He lives in Colorado.

How does Ray, an 89‑year‑old, plan to complete the Pueblo 150‑mile challenge?

Dave Paul 2:49
Right now he's doing the Pueblo Challenge 150. And essentially, there's about 300 people who are doing this. And the challenge is during the months of June and July. So it's coming to an end. During the months of June and July, log 150 miles. By walking Running. Riding a bike, you can evil even paddleboard. In other words, get moving in a way that you can track how far you're going. And in June and July, cumulatively get 150 miles. And Ray is doing it. Ray is eighty nine years old. And it's not just Ray's age that is inspiring. I could stop there and and go, Yes, yes, please, sign me up. I want to be like Ray when I'm eighty-nine. For twenty years. Reyes had a mechanical heart valve. So he's got some health conditions.
Dave Paul 4:01
Ray needs regular blood test to make sure that the blood thinning medication that he's on is remaining at the right level. And that means when it's at the right level, it means he's at lowered risk for blood clots, which could cause stroke, other serious things.

What health considerations does Ray manage while taking on the 150‑mile challenge?

Dave Paul 4:19
So Ray's got a heart issue that he's been monitoring for decades. at 89 Ray said I'm gonna do the Pueblo 150 challenge. Ray averages about two miles a day. And he's walking by the way. Averages about two miles a day. And He's on track to reach 150 by the end of this month and also his 90th birthday. Saray isn't just 89, he's almost 90. And I love his perspective. Not only is he doing this, but he says, I really enjoy walking anything. Is better than sitting. Love that. And then there's Dale. Dale's story actually made the New York Times and there's even a video on YouTube. Dale is doing the Appalachian Trail. That's a 2190 mile trail that stretches from Georgia to Maine. And Dale is trying to become the oldest person
Dave Paul 5:38
Ever to do the trail all 2190 miles. Dale is 91 years old.
