What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
I might actually regret doing this episode. Hi, I'm Dave, welcome to Walking Is Fitness, a daily ten minute podcast designed to provide you with added motivation and encouragement to get out, take the walk. And more importantly, to keep going. to build a life changing walking habit. Today's ten minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic.
Why does Dave start the episode by unboxing his new Topo Athletic shoes?
These contain my new shoes. The ST6, these are minimal shoes. Wide toe box, all the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need, minimal shoes, maximal cushion. They've got road shoes, trail shoes. Recovery shoes, race shoes. Alright, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking. And very light. Very light. Let's pull the inserts out, try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking is Fitness. You can check them out.
Again, TopoAthletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. All right, leaving the back porch. Walking in and yeah, this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm gonna be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly. In the meantime, check them out, Topo Athletic, T-O-P-O, Topoathletic.com.
The days are longer, the calendar is filling up, and I want to feel as good as this beautiful summer weather. That's why I've been loving Groons. It's one daily pack of gummies that covers my greens, vitamins, and minerals, and even has six grams of prebiotic fiber. So I don't need to juggle a complicated wellness routine on top of everything else. They taste amazing. They're easy to toss in my Bag on the go plus their vegan gluten free and HSA FSA eligible for reimbursement. Save up to fifty-two percent off with promo code podcast at groons.co. I am not gonna bury the headline. Here's why I may regret this episode. I'm going to encourage you. To walk Without any audio, without anything in your ears. Other than the sound of what's around you. And you can probably hear, this was not planned. I'm walking along the wooded trail. And there's a grove of pine trees and up in several of the trees at the very top, probably a dozen, I'm guessing those are crows. And they're just having a good old time.
I love that you listen to this podcast. I love that you enjoy taking me along as a companion on your walks. I love being your companion and and there are many, many walks when I'm the one listening to a podcast. And I enjoy what the podcast host is talking about, their personality, their companionship as I'm walking. I Enjoy sometimes love. Enjoy walking and listening to music. I don't do that quite as often. But every now and then when the mood strikes, I have Sirius XM on my phone, I'll find a particular channel. Usually it's the Beatles channel, but not always. Pop that on and and listen to the music as I'm walking. My wife Ava loves listening to audiobooks. It's something I haven't really gotten into.
Not entirely sure why. But I have recommended, if that's your thing, to find an audiobook that you love, that you enjoy. and only listen to it when you are out walking.
How does a wide toe box and zero‑drop design affect the walking experience?
So it actually becomes motivation to take the walk. You wanna see what happens next in the book. And that's a good thing. But there's great value I'm learning in taking a quiet walk. A walk that if it's safe for you is so low. A walk that is I think this is best done outside, although you could do it on a treadmill inside. Just leave the TV off, just leave the audio off. But I do think it's best done outside. We take a walk and you're not listening to anything. Other than What's around you? Like a bunch of crows. They seem to have quieted down. So I've walked to the end of the trail and I've turned around and now I'm heading back in the other direction.
