What is the purpose of Day 14 of the 30‑Day Walking Challenge?

Dave Paul 0:03
It is day 14 of the 30-day walking challenge, and today we're going to hear from several listeners who are in the midst of doing this challenge. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking as Fitness, a daily 10-minute podcast designed to provide you with a little added motivation and encouragement to get out the door, take the walk, and more importantly, to keep going to build a life-changing, life-lasting walking habit. Today's 10-minute walk starts right after. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes. The ST6, these are minimal shoes. Wide toe box, all the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe.

With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need, minimal shoes, maximal cushion. They've got road shoes, trail shoes, recovery shoes, race shoes. All right, let's open Open the box and there's a box inside the box and these are nice looking and very light, very light. Pull the inserts out. Try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking Is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, TopoAthletic.com.

Why does Dave recommend Topo Athletic shoes and what are their key features?

Dave Paul 1:24
You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. All right, leaving the back porch. Walking in and yeah, this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm gonna be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly. In the meantime, check them out, Topo Athletic, T-O-P-O, Topoathletic.com. Got an email from Christina, who lives in Portland, Oregon. By the way, I have a sister, Amy, her husband, Jason, and their two sons, my nephews, Gus and Rex, also live in Portland. Christina writes, Hi Dave, first learned about your YouTube channel about a year ago. I liked watching your videos, but still couldn't motivate myself to get out and walk more. Then
Dave Paul 2:15
Your 30-day challenge video showed up on my feed and I decided to give it a try. I've walked every day of the challenge so far for at least 10 minutes. Well, recently you mentioned you had a walking pad that you use during inclement weather, but you didn't say what brand it is. I'm interested in buying one as some very hot weather is coming here in the Pacific Northwest. Recently we had a very rainy Day I did get out and walk with my umbrella. I live in an apartment building that spans a full block. and is four stories high. So my alternative plan

How does Christina from Portland stay motivated during rainy days?

Dave Paul 2:51
For days that aren't suitable for walking outside is to walk the one block length of the building. To the western stairwell, head up a flight, then back to the eastern stairwell, head up to the next flight, and I keep doing that until I get to the fourth floor, and then I reverse and come down. So far, when I do that, I've walked for at least 10 minutes. By the way, Christina, I love that idea. Not only are you using available resources, you're adding stairs, which increases the intensity as you're going up the stairs and down the stairs. So I think that's a a wonderful, wonderful plan. Back to Christina's email. However, when you mentioned the walking pad, I thought that might be another alternative as well.
Dave Paul 3:36
I can also use it in the evenings while watching shows rather than sitting for several hours. So I wonder if you would be willing to share the make and model of your walking pad or if you have any other recommendations. Before writing this, I did Google highest rated walking pads for twenty twenty six. Read a few reviews, watched a few YouTube videos, but this really wasn't very helpful as they all recommended different makes and models. There was not a consistent number one recommendation. Thanks for your help. Christina in Portland. Christina, thank you. So sure I'll tell you the walking pad that that I use.

Which walking‑pad model does Dave use and why might it suit indoor walkers?

Dave Paul 4:15
It's a lifespan DT T3 treadmill. It's essentially a walking pad. There's no railing to hold on to. It doesn't incline. It's basically a walking pad. And I will also be honest with you and say that I did no research before getting this.
